We are not actively researching this Jacob Hartman, son of John Hartman and Anna Moses. These notes have been gathered during our research of the Christopher Hartman family.
1750 Jacob Hartman emigrated to the US with his parents in 1750. Jacob received the plantation owned by Johanne. Lived in Cumberland & Perry County, Pennsylvania. Spouses listed included Sallie Shoulder and Eva Maria Dankel.
Jacob Hartman, apparently a different Jacob Hartman, was in the Revolutionary War and was wounded in the Battle of Brandywine (Widow's Pension Application File number W4450 made in Pennsylvania by Margaret Hartman, widow of Jacob Hartman Senior, dated 1848-1859. 1789 Daniel Ulrich, pastor of the German Lutheran church in Tulpehocken, Berks County, testified that translated church records documented a marriage between Jacob Hartman and Peggy Cox on 12 May, 1789.
1792 Jacob Hartman, coach painter of Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania, authorized attorney Jasper Heiney to have authority to sell and dispose of benefits, other than his pension, due to him. Jacob Hartman was a Captain in John Douglas' Company in the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment commanded by Colonel Richard Humpton. Jacob Hartman was wounded at Brandywine. Dated December 3.
1838 Margaret Hartman of Lancaster City, Lancaster County, widow of Jacob Hartman, age 69, gave sworn testimony that she was the widow of Jacob, who served in 1776 in the village of Germantown, Philadelphia. He was wounded serving under George Washington at the battle Brandywine on 11 September 1777. She married Jacob Hartman at Tulpehocken, Berks County on 12 May, 1789. Jacob Hartman died 1811-1812, date uncertain because Jacob often left the family without notice, due to intemperance. Peggy Hartman was still living in Lancaster in 1748. Dated August 25.
