Notes for Samuel Hartman

1790 Samuel Hartman was born on March 19, in Middlesex (later called Mercer) County, New Jersey. [1]

1795 Samuel Hartman moved, with his parents, to Kentucky. [2]

1801 Samuel Hartman moved, with his parents, to Clermont County, Ohio. [3]

c 1812 Samuel Hartman served in the War of 1812 in Captain Stephen Smith's Company of the Ohio Militia. His second wife Elizabeth was named in his pension record. [4]

1812 Betsey Huntington, daughter of James Huntington and Elizabeth Huntington, was born on May 23 in Vermont. She became the second wife of Samuel Hartman. [5]

1814 Samuel Hartman, of Clermont County, Ohio, purchased land from Joseph James. The 100 acres of land was on the East fork of the Little Miami River. Joseph James died before making a final deed, so the heirs signed the deed, recorded in 1816. [6] A deed with Catherine James, widow of Joseph, reported that the land was in Clermont County, part of 2655, in the Virginia Military Reservation. [7]

1814 Samuel Hartman and [Sarah] Sally Dunham were married on November 24, in Clermont County, by Ezekiel Hutchinson, Minister of Gospel ME Church. The record was affirmed in February 1815. [8] [9] [10] [11] [12]

1820 Samuel Hartman was a resident proprieter on land in Clermont County, originally owned by William Lawson. Waterhead: East fk. L.Miami. [13] Isaac Hartman had land nearby.

1820 Saml Hartman lived in Williamsburg Twp, Clermont County, Ohio in a household with males: 2 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 1 (under 10) and 1 (16 thru 25). [14]

1824 Samuel Hartman, of Clermont County, purchased 24 acres of land from William James. The land was part of the land owned by Joseph James, deceased [see 1814 deed]. Witnessed by John M Hutchinson and J Hartman. [15] Samuel purchased another tract from William McKay, William H James, and Aaron James. [16]

1836 Samuel Hartman purchased 260 acres of land in Clermont County on the waters of Pleasant Run, from Mary and Samuel Abernathy, William McAdams, and Thomas McAdams. Witnessed by William Hartman and William Hartman Jr. [18]

1837 Samuel Hartman purchased 194 acres of land in Clermont County on the waters of Pleasant Run, from Adam Bricker. The land was adjacent to land of Isaac Hartman. [19]

1841 Sarah "Sally" Dunham Hartman reportedly died on September 11, at age 44, and was buried at Hartman Cemetery, Clermont County, Ohio. [20] [21] [22] [23]

1844 Samuel Hartman married Elizabeth Browing on October 17, in Clermont County, Ohio. [24] [25] [26]

1850 Samuel Hartman (age 60) and Elizabeth Hartman (age 38, born in Vermont) lived in Jackson Twp, Clermont County, Ohio with Elizabeth Hartman (age 22), Rebecca Hartman (age 19), Samuel Hartman (age 16), Sarah Hartman (age 4), Adaline Hartman (age 3), and Catharine Hartman (age 1). [27] [28]

1860 Samuel Hartman (age 70) and Elizabeth Hartman (age 48) lived in Jackson Twp, Clermont County, Ohio with Sarah F Hartman (age 14), Jane A Hartman (age 13), and Emely C Hartman (age 11), and Nancy E Hartman (age 9). [29] [30]

1862 Samuel Hartman died on May 12, 1862 and was buried at the Hartman Cemetery, Clermont County, Ohio. His grave marker indicated War of 1812. Samuel Hartman was born on March 19, 1790. [31] [32] [33]

1875 Several heirs of Samuel Hartman owned land in sections 2 and 3 of Washington Twp, Darke County, Ohio. [34]

1880 Elizabeth Hartman (age 68, born in Vermont, widowed), mother, lived in Jackson Twp, Clermont County, Ohio, in a household with Addie Wayne (33), Alice C. Wayne (10), and Ella G. Wayne (8). Elizabeth Hartman's father was born in Connecticut and her mother was born in Vermont. Elizabeth Hartman's occupation was boarding. [35]

1890 Elizabeth Hartman, wife of Samuel, died on May 10, 1890 and was buried at Hartman Cemetery, Clermont County, Ohio. Elizabeth Hartman was born on May 23, 1812. [36] [37] [38]

1911 Robert S Hartman, widowed, died on June 28, at age 86 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. He was born on December 2, 1824 in Ohio City, son of Samuel Hartman and Sarah Dumm. [39]

1913 Elizabeth Rebecca Hartman Leonard died on June 28 at Greenfield, Highland County, Ohio and was buried at Hartman Cemetery, Williamsburg, Clermont County, Ohio. Elizabeth Rebecca Hartman Leonard was born on July 16, 1828. [40] [41]

1925 Jane Adaline Wayne died in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. Jane Adaline Wayne, daughter of Samuel Hartman and Elizabeth Hunting, was born on May 12, 1847. [42] [43] [44]

1927 Sarah Frances Hartman White died on January 5 at Soldier, Camas County, Idaho and was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Fairfield, Camas County, Idaho. Sarah Frances Hartman White was born on August 4, 1845. [45] [46]

A biosketch reports [47]:

Samuel Hartman, was born in Middlesex Co. N. J., March 19, 1790 ; in 1795, he emigrated with his parents to Kentucky, and in 1801, came to the Territory of Ohio and located in Clermont County ; he died May 13, 1862, upon the old homestead, where he located sixty-one years previous- his first wife was Sarah Dunham ; she died in Brown Co., Ohio, in 1841, leaving eight children, of whom two now survive.
