Notes for Jacob Bonnett

Jacob Bonnett: "Born on Cedar Creek, Frederick County, Virginia, 1761. Enlisted in March, 1780, and served six months in the Virginia militia on the western borders under Captain Coburn, Major Lowther, and Colonel Crockett as an Indian spy in Tyler and Brooke counties. Applied for pension, August 6, 1832, Lewis County. Certificate issued, August 26, 1833, but was later suspended as being too young for service. Bonnett died, about 1847, leaving following children: Martha, wife of Samuel Horner; Delilah, wife of Abraham Hess; Eliza, wife of Fleming Sprouse; Lucinda, wife of Jesse Butcher; Samuel, who died leaving children; Gracie West, dead, leaving children; Elizabeth Alkire, dead, leaving children. Jacob Bonnett had four brothers: Samuel, Peter, John, and a twin, Lewis Bonnett. All the above are declared to have been Revolutionary soldiers. John was killed by the Indians and hidden in a cave on the Kanawa in 1783." [1]
