Complete Peerage provides a brief biography of Adam de Novo Mercato, son of John de Novo Mercato. [1]

1253 October 17 "Concerning security for plevin. Adam son of John de Novo Mercato has made fine by Robert de Veylly that he be placed for plevin until the coming of the justices to those parts by 20 m., concerning which he will render one moiety at Hilary and the other moiety at Easter by pledge of the same Adam. He is to be distrained by the sheriff of Yorkshire. Item, Walter de Ludham is pledge and has land in Northamptonshire. [Note: This last sentence may be a later addition.]" [2]

1257 February 3 "Westminster. For Adam de Novo Mercato. The king, at the instance of Henry de la More, clerk of Cornwall, has pardoned Adam de Neufmarché the amercement which occurred before the justices of the Bench against Henry de Percy. Order to the same justices to remit that amercement to him." [3]

1264 April 20 "Grantham. Concerning lands that have been committed. The king has committed to Richard Folyot the manors of Adam de Novo Mercato of Womersley, Campsall, Thorp', Bentley and Archsey in Yorkshire, which the king took into his hand because he [Richard] captured him [Adam] while Adam was resisting the king in hostile manner in the conflict that recently took place at Northampton, to keep for as long as it pleases the king, so that he answers him for the issues arising therefrom at the Exchequer. In [testimony] of which thing etc." [4]

1264 October 25 "Westminster. For Ralph of Cemais. To the justices assigned to the custody of the Jews. For the praiseworthy service which the king's beloved and faithful Ralph of Cemais gives to him, the king has pardoned to him all debts in which he was bound to Cok son of Aaron, formerly a Jew of London, lately deceased, and all other debts in which he was bound to other Jews whatsoever by the charters of the same Ralph. Order to cause the charters by which he was bound to the said Jews in the abovesaid debts to be extracted from the chests of the Jews throughout England and delivered to Ralph, to cause him to be quit from all of the aforesaid debts and to cause this to be done and enrolled thus. By the king, H. Despenser, justiciar, Peter de Montfort, Adam de Novo Mercato, Giles de Argentan and others of the council." [5]

1264 September 18 Adam de Novo Mercato, Thomas Darcy and Robert de Wyleby pledged to pay the debts to the king of William de Furnival. "Canterbury. For the executors of William de Furnival. Because Adam de Novo Mercato, Thomas Darcy and Robert de Wyleby have mainperned before the king (coram Rege) to pay debts to the king if William de Furnival, lately deceased, owed him anything on the day he died, order to the sheriff of Cumberland to permit the executors of the same William to have free administration of all chattels of the said deceased, in order to make execution of his testament therefrom." [6]

1264/65 January 18 "Westminster. The king has committed the vacant archbishopric of York with appurtenances to Adam de Novo Mercato and Adam of Belstead to keep for as long as it pleases the king, so that they answer him for the issues arising therefrom at the Exchequer." [7]

1265/65 January 30 "Westminster. Order to Adam de Novo Mercato and Master Adam of Belstead, keepers of the archbishopric of York, that, having accepted security from the executors of G. archbishop of York, lately deceased, for rendering debts to the king if the same G. owed him anything on the day he died, they are to permit the same executors to have full administration of all goods and chattels of the said deceased, in order to make execution of his testament therefrom." [8]

1265 March 27 "Westminster. To the king's beloved and faithful Adam of Everingham, keeper of Sherwood Forest. Whereas the king recently committed the vacant archbishopric of York to Adam de Novo Mercato and Master Adam of Belstead to keep for as long as it pleases the king, and whereas certain of the woods of the same archbishopric are in Adam [of Everingham's] hand within the king's forest, order to deliver those woods to the abovesaid Adam and Adam to keep together with the aforesaid archbishopric, as aforesaid, and if he has taken anything from the issues of those woods, he is to cause it to be delivered to them so they might answer the king for it at the Exchequer." [9]

1272 May "Yorkshire. Adam son of Adam de Novo Mercato gives half a mark for an assize to be taken before J. de Oketon. Order to the sheriff of Yorkshire. [10]
