1836 Isaiah N. Meals, son of Samuel Meals and Hilliard, was born on January 26, in Butler County, Pennsylvania. [2]

c 1838 Alfred G Meals was born in Pennsylvania. [3]

1840 Elizabeth M. Meals, daughter of Samuel G Meals and Catherine Hilliard, was born on March 1 in Pennsylvania. [4]

1840 Samuel Males (age 30-39) lived at Parker Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania with two males (age 0-5), one female (age 0-5) and one female (age 20-29). [5]

1850 Samuel Males (age 40) and Catharine Meals (age 36) lived at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania with Josiah (age 14), Alfred (age 12), Elizabeth (age 19), Mariah (age 8), Emeline (age 5), Margaret (age 3). [6]

1850 Daughter Emeline Meals died on August 21 and was buried at North Washington Union Cemetery, North Washington, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [7]

1850 Catharine Meals died on October 5, at age 56y 3m 25d, and was buried at North Washington Union Cemetery, North Washington, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [8]

1857 George Washington Meals, son of Samuel Meals and Emaline Bright, was born on April 20 in Pennsylvania. [9]

1860 Samuel Meals (age 51) and Emeline Meals (age 35) lived at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania with Alfred G (age 22), Elizabeth (age 20), Mariah (age 18), Margaret L (age 13), Hall C (age 11), Amanda J (age 5), George W (age 3), and Samuel L (age 1). [10] [11]

1870 Saml G Meals (age 61) and Emeline Meals (age 44) lived at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania with Margaret (age 22), Amanda (age 15), George W (age 13), Samuel F (age 11), Mary (age 8), Ann L (age 2), and Clarrie B (age 4 months). [12] [13]

1877 Samuel G Meals died on September 21 and was buried at North Washington Union Cemetery, North Washington, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [14]

1877 An obituary notice reported Samuel G Meals died at age 78 in Washington Twp. [15] [16]:

At his residence in Washington tp., this county, Sept 21, 1877, Mr. Samuel G. Meals, aged 78 years, 2 months and 17 days.

Mr. Meals was one of the best and most upright citizens of our county. By his industry and integrity he acquired considerable of this world's goods, which he used charitably and well. He was much respected, and his death is lamented by all who knew him.

1906 On 15 April, son Alfred G Meals died at age 68 at Allegheny County Hospital, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. [17]

1908 Emily Meals died on September 18 and was buried at North Washington Union Cemetery, North Washington, Butler County, Pennsylvania. Emily was born on August 25, 1835. [18]

1908 Emeline Meals died on September 18, at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [19]

1912 Isaiah N Meals, son of Samuel Meals and Hilliard, died on January 29, at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [20]

1920 Elizabeth M Arnold, daughter of Samuel Meals and Katherine Hilliard, died on January 29, at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [21]

1923 Maria Meals Daubenspeck, daughter of Samuel Meals and Katherine Hilliard, died on January 29, at Washington Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [22]

1934 Daughter Margaret Louise Campbell died on February 26 and was buried at West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, West Sunbury, Butler County, Pennsylvania. [23]

1943 George Washington Meals, son of Samuel Meals and Emaline Bright, spouse of Leota Meals, died on May 7, 1943, at age 86, in Donegal Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania. George Washington Meals was born on April 20, 1857, in Washington Twp Butler County, Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 45280). [24]

1947 Marda Jane Thompson, daughter of Samuel G Meals and Emily Bright, spouse of Robert Thompson, died on October 25, 1947, at age 92, in Pittsburgh Twp, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Marda Jane Thompson was born on December 18, 1854, in Butler County, Pennsylvania. (Death certificate: 94778). [25]

1956 Carrie Bright Barnhart, daughter of Samuel G Meals and Emily Bright, spouse of Edward R Barnhart, died on December 31, 1956, at age 86, in Butler Twp, Butler County, Pennsylvania. Carrie Bright Barnhart was born on February 2, 1870, in Washington Township. (Death certificate: 106224). [26]

A biosketch reports [27]:

Samuel G. Meals, the son of George and Elizabeth (Studebaker) Meals, was born in Westmoreland County July 4, 1809, and when about two years old came to Mechanicsburg, Worth Township. Butler County, with his parents. Here the family resided until about 1817, when they removed to Concord Township, where they remained until their removal to Washington Township, His father was a blacksmith, and Samuel worked in his shop when a boy. He learned the trade of a stonemason, and worked at it for about sixteen years, in Butler and adjoining counties, getting his start in life in this way. Before he married, Mr. Meals improved the land that is now the Shira farm. February 18, 1836 he married Catharine, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Hilliard. of Washington Township. The children of this union were Isaiah N., now a resident of Washington Township ; Alfred G., Concord; Elizabeth (Arnold), Shenango, Mercer County ; Maria ( Daubenspeck), Parker Township; Emeline, deceased ; Maggie L. (Campbell). Washington Township, and Catharine, deceased. Mrs. Meals died October 5, 1850, in her thirty-seventh year. November 4. 1853, Mr. Meals was married to Mrs. Emeline Clark. She was born in Allegheny County, but came to Butler County when a child, with her parents, Henry and MaiT Bright. By her first husband, Alexander Clark, she had two sons - Henry J. Clark, Concord Township, and Hale Clark, Fairview Township. The children of this second marriage were Amanda J,, George W., Samuel F., Mary A,, Abraham L. (deceased), Anna L. and Carrie B. The oldest daughter is the wife of Robert Thompson, Washington Township, The other children are unmarried and reside at home.

Mr. Meals was a man of diligence and industry and succeeded well in business. Soon after he began farming he owned over four hundred acres of land, on which he had commenced improvements. This tine farm is situated in the beautiful spot known as the "Glade" on the South Branch of Slippery Rock. Mr. .Meals erected a large barn, and a fine brick house, which is now the home of his family: also a tenement house on another part of the farm. .Mr, Meals was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church and held the offce of Deacon. He also held several township offices. and stood high in the community, he died September 21. 1877, Mrs. Meals and her unmarried children reside on the old farm. The homestead now consists of two hundred and forty acres, and is owned by George W. Meals, a successful and progressive young farmer.
