Notes for Peter Heart

1697/98 On January 20, David Heart, clerk, was commissioned as a Chaplain and Peter Heart, gentleman, as an Ensign in Colonel Gibson's regiment of foot. [1]

1697/98 Payments to David Heart, chaplain, and to Ensign Peter Heart of Col. John Gibsone's Regiment in March were listed among the warrants in the Treasury Book. [2]

Thomas Dore; 7s. 6d. to Major Thomas Handiside; 5s. each to Captains Medburn Smith, Clifford Brexton, Griffin May, Robert Dalyell, John Foulk, Edward Rigby, Joseph Hargrave, Hugh Boyd, Geo. Watkins, John Fra. Petit; 2s. 4d. to Capt. Lieutenant Luke Spicer and to Lieutenants Gilbert Abbot, Alexander Hardine, George Heron, Nathaniell Lawson, James Desromaines, Peter Morin, Jermyn Archbold, Thomas Symons, David Gibson, Robert Grigg, William Lilburn, Lewis Liermont and Jacob Boyce; 1s. 10d. each to Ensigns James Gibson, Roger Handiside, Isaac Gabriell, — Houghton, Peter Heart, Francis Gibsoner, William Wanless, John Meeniss, — Overton, Humphry Haven, William Livingston, and Bryan Stapleton; 3s. 4d. to David Heart as chaplain and 2s. 4d. to William Sloan as Quarter Master. 1698/99 Payments in March to David Heart, chaplain, and to Ensign Peter Heart of Col. John Gibson's Regiment were listed in the Journals of the House of Commons. [3]

1701 Payments to David Heart, chaplain, and to Ensign Peter Heart of Col. John Gibson's Regiment were listed in the Journals of the House of Commons. [4]

1706 Peter Heart was commissioned as a Captain in Colonel Kirk's Regiment of Foot on April 6. [5]

1721 Peter Heart was commissioned as Captain in the Queen's Regiment on June 9. [6] In a footnote to this information, Dalton states, "Hart. An exchange of Company. This officer was commissioned Capt. in above Regt. in 1706. Taken prisoner at Almanza. Major, 9 June, 1721. Lt.-Col. of 10th Foot 5 July, 1737. Serving in 1740."

1726 Peter Heart Esq. was listed as a Major in his Majesty's Troops in Great Britain. [7]

1746 Peter Heart wrote his will on June 9 and added a codicil on June 14. [8]

In the Name of God Amen I Peter Heart Lieutenant Coloniel in his Magestys Regiment of Foot commanded by Lieutenant General Francis Columbine being week of Body but of sound and perfect mind and memory and understanding Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following first I recommend my Soul to Almighty God My Body I commit to the Earth to be decently Interred at the Discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as for my Worldly Estate I give and dispose therof as follows In the first place I Will and direct that all such Debts as I shall owe at the time of my Decease be fully paid and satisfyed and after payment of such Debts and my funeral Charges I give and bequeath to my Neice Margery Gordon the sum of Two hundred pounds of Lawfull Money of Great Britain and I also give and bequeath to my Niece Barbary Gordon the like sum of Two hundred Pounds of Lawfull Money of Great Britain and to my good friends Lieutenant Gaven Cuming of his his Majestys aforesaid Regiment and Lieutenant Jonathan Forbess of his Majestys Regiment of Foot commanded by Brigr. Thomas Fowke I give to each of them twenty one poundes of Lawfull Money of Great Britain in remambrane of the Friendship I have for them and all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate both real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever which I shall dye possessed of or intitled unto I give devise and bequeath the same unto my Nephew James Gordon his heirs Executors administrtors and Assignes for ever To his and their own proper use and uses and I do hereby revoke all former Wills by me made and publish and Declare this to be my last Will and Testament and do make constiture and appoint my said friends Gavine Cuming and Jonathan Forbess Executors hereof In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament subscribed my Name and affixed my Seal this Ninth day of June in the nineteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc and in the year of our Lords One thousand seven hundred and Forty six P: Heart Signed sealed published and declared by the Testator Peter Heart ans and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto in the presence of the said Testator and of each other Alexandre McPherson Thomas Knowles.
June the 14. 1746 I give to my friend Jonathan Forbess my gold repeating Watch which I desire he will accept in remembrance of me.

1748 The will of Peter Heart was proved on June 8. [9]

On the eighth day of June one thousand seven hundred and Forty eight Administration with the Will annexed of the Goods Chattles and Credits of Peter Heart Esquire late Lieutenant Colonel in his Majestys Regiment of Foot commanded by Lieutenant General Columbine at Gibralter a widower deceased was granted to James Gordon the residuary Legatee named in the said Will being first sworn duly to Administer Gavine Cuming and Jonathan Forbess the Exectors mamed in the said Will being first duly cited to Accept or refuse the Execution thereof and in no wise appearing.

Same [Treasury warrant] to same to pay said Bowtell [William Bowtell, of London, merchant] 360/. for the redemption of Nicholas Johnson, Richard Lester, Tho. Hatch, Richard Lovell, Jno. Watts, Peter Heart, Robert Cleft, Joseph Long and Robt. Barret, captives at Algiers: it appearing by good certificates
that they have been redeemed accordingly.
