An obituary [3] reported:

Carol L. Applegate, 76, of Urbana, died Monday, April 26, 2010 in Vitas Hospice Care, Dayton, Ohio.

He was born December 25, 1933 in Darke County, Ohio, a son of the late Edward and Elsie (Amspaugh) Applegate. Carol graduated from Jackson (Indiana) High School in Randolph County and attended Purdue University. He was the owner/operator of the Douglas Inn Restaurant, a member of Union City United Methodist Church, Brookville Amvets #1789, American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120 and VFW Post 5451, and he had a passion for sailing.

Survivors include: his wife Sue (Darland) Applegate, whom he married on September 2, 1955; sons, Gregory (Julie) Applegate of Ft. Wayne, Richard (Holly) Applegate of Brookville, Ohio, and Brian (Heather) Applegate of Bryan, Texas; a sister, Janet McBride of California, and a brother, Larry (Linda) Applegate of rural Union City, Indiana; sister-in-law, Brenda Applegate of Greenville, Ohio; grandchildren, August, Racine, Abby and Liam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Applegate.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010 and one hour prior to services in the Walter and Smith Funeral Home, 642 S. Main Street, Urbana, Ohio. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday with Rev. Bruce Applegate officiating. Burial will follow in Troutwine Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.

Military honors will be provided by members of the U.S. Army and American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120.

Memorial contributions may be made in Carol's memory to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 1 Elizabeth Place, Dayton, Ohio 45408.
