Notes for Joseph Pettit

1679 "Joseph pettitt" was on a list of names above the words: "Att A Generall Towne Meetting helld att hempsted y'e 24 of June : 1679 itt was Voatted and Agreed apon tthatt those persons above named shall have libertty". [1]

1682 On May 24, Joseph Pettet was on a list of those who agreed to live under the ministry of Jeremy Hubard and to pay [taxes] in "corn or cattell". [2]

Joseph Pettit was town clerk for Hempstead and his name appears many times in the Hempstead town records. [3] [4] Several deeds were witnessed by Joseph and Margaret Pettit, suggesting that she was a convenient witness when Joseph was present.
