Notes for Thomas Curtis

1547 Thomas Curtesse made a covenant on June 22, about the Holland estate at Ford, which was subsequently occupied by several generations of Curtis families. This Thomas might have been the father of Thomas Curtis, whose children were born between 1565 and 1573. Ford House and closes: Covenant made between Robert Fox of Crich and Thomas Curtesse otherwise Thomas Woodthorpe of the Ford whereby neither will let any of their land at Ford "to any straunge person or persons" upon pain of forfeiting £40, with the exception of an indenture by John Fox clerk to Edmund Plattes. [1]

1565 Elizabeth Curties, daughter of Thomas Curties, was baptized on April 1, at Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [2]

1566 Elizabeth Curties, daughter of Thomas Curties, was buried on March 17, at Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [3]

1567 Hellen Curtis, daughter of Thomas Curtis, was baptized on January 26, 1566/67 at Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [4]

1567 "Mem that my master went to London afore Christmas and tarry'd until welnigh Candlemas to take physick for the cough and phlegm. his man that went with him Arthur Mower went with him to Nottingham Richard Willey, Robert Curtis, Henry Stevenson brought done the horses and carried them up again and went for him soon after hay time home, anno dom 1567." 1570 Robert Curties, son of Thomas Curties, was baptized on August 13, at Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [7]

1573 John Curties, son of Thomas Curties, was baptized on March 27, at Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [8] [9]

1575 The Holland estate at Ford, Ford House and closes: Grant by John Fox of Ford husbandman to Anthony Else of Tansley husbandman and Edward Wylde citizen of London merchant tailor of a messuage and appurtenances in Ford, late the possession of Robert Fox father of John, to hold to the use of Helen wife of John for life, and then to the use of John and his heirs. Dated 3 June. [10]

1577 "Thomas Curties was buried the second daie Januarie" 1576/77, at Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. [11]

1581 Margaret, wife of Thomas Curtice, was buried on March 22, at North Wingfield, Derbyshire, England.

1436 The Holland estate at Ford, Ford House and closes: Deed of feoffment by John Fox of Normanton to William Fox his son of all his lands and tenements at Ford le Furthe in the parish of North Wingfield. Rent to the lords of Shirland 6d; to the abbot of Welbeck, 3s 4d. Dated at Normanton, 20 April, 14 Henry VI. [13]

1498 The Holland estate at Ford, Ford House and closes: Deed of feoffment by William Foxe of Crich to Thomas Babington of Dethick esq., Ralph Poole of Wakebridge, Robert Worth bailiff of Crich, John Fox clerk, Thomas Fox, and William Fox junior (sons of grantor) of all his lands and tenements at Ford le Forthe in the parish of North Wingfield. Dated at Crich, 24 October. [14]

1528 The Fox family made a deed, dated May 22, 20 Henry VIII, for the Holland estate at Ford, Ford House and closes: Deed of feoffment by John Fox of Crich clerk to Richard Wurthe, William Wurthe, William Alisbrook, William Beyghton, and Thomas Kocshott of all lands etc. in Ford le Forde next to Sidinhall. Dated at Ford. [15]

1529 The Holland estate at Ford, Ford House and closes: Agreement made between John Pole of Wakebridge esq. and George Pole his brother, and Katherine Fox and Robert Fox of the Egge Edge whereby John and George grant to Katherine and Robert and the heirs of Robert the house and land at Ford which Sir John Fox sold to George Pole clerk. Katherine and Robert have granted to John Pole free entry to carry away all wood at Ford for term of 11 years. Consideration paid to John Pole, 10 marks 5s. Dated 10 September. [16]

1529 The Holland estate at Ford, Ford House and closes: Release and quitclaim by George son of Ralph Pole of Wakebridge to Katherine Fox and Robert Fox her son of all his right etc. in lands at Ford. Dated at Crich, Monday after the exaltation of the Holy Cross, 21 Henry VIII. (20 Sept.). [17]

1557 The will of Robert Thornhill, of Woodhall in Holderness made a bequest to "To Ellen Curtes and John Curtes, with their childes partes, in all xxiijli. each. To Elizabeth Curteys xiij li. vi s.. viij d. To Dorothee Noble forty shillinges, and to Anthonny Curteys his farme rent free one yere." [18]

1589 "Then my lord ordered of tithe corn and gathered it Mr Eyre woud have had it, but my lords men woud let him have none. The first tithe they had, of me Arthur Mower they had of wheat that did grow on the piece of land next to the lane in the nethermost croft, being Tuesday the 26t August 1589, at fetching of tithe Adam Barker of Totley my lords' man Thomas Curtis my lords man, and John Adkinson of Barley drove draught." 1593 The will of Richard Curtisse was administered at Lichfield, Staffordshire. [21]

1595 Johan Curties was buried on April 5, at Dronfield, Dronfield, Holmesfield, Dore, Derbyshire, England. [22]

1614 The will of Thomas Curtisse, of Wolfhamcote, Warwickshire, England, was administered at Lichfield, Staffordshire. [23] [24]

1621 The will of Eleanor Curtisse was administered at Lichfield, Staffordshire. [25]
