1493-1500 Chancery pleading C 1/227/40 Plaintiffs: John Tylle and Catherine, his wife, previously the wife of Henry, eldest son of John Horden, of Goudhurst. Defendants: John, son and heir of Stephen Haryngden, feoffee. Subject: A messuage and land in Goudhurst. Kent. [1] [2] Transcription: "To the most reverent Fader in gode & cardinall Archebusshop of Caunterbury and Chauncelor of Englond Showith vnto your goode and gracious lordeships yowre power Oratour John Tylle and Kateren his wife late the wiffe of Henry Horden eldest son of John Horden of Goudeherst in the countie of Kent wher the said John Horden was seasid of a mese and CC acrys of londe medowe wode and pastures with the appurtenances sett and lying in Goudherst aforesaid in his demayn as of fee And Soo beying seisyd therof infeffyd on Stephyn Haryngden and others in fee to the vse of the said John Horden his heires and his assignes And after that appon co'mynytation and aggremet of maryage to be hade bytwyn your said oratrix and the said Henry son of the foresaid John Horden hit was fully was fully agreyd and promysyd by the said John Horden that after his decesse And Alice then his wiff the said Stephyn Haryngden shuld of thes premyssys make estate to your said Oratrix or to such person or persons as she shulde name to have to them [and] to ther assigns to the vse of yowre said Oratrix for terme of her lyff vppon which promise & aggrement your said Oratrice tok to husbonde the same Henry Horden And after that the said Henry & John Horden and Alice dyed afterword the said Stephyn being sole seasyd of the premysses therof dyed seasyd by reson wher of the said mese lande wode medowe and pasture with thappurtenances distendyd to on John Harynden son and heyer to the said Stephyn whome your seyd Oratours in the Rigth of the said Kateryn ofte tymes have required to make the same Kateryn estate of the premysses as is afore specyfyed for terme of her lyfe accordyng to the promyse befoerehersyd which to doo the seid John Harynden well knowyng the said promise and aggrement vtterly hath refusyd and yet doth refuse to the grett hurt of your said Oratours yn which case they be with owtyn remedy on lese your goode and graciouse lordeshipe to them be showyd in this behalf wherefore please yit the same your lordeshipe the premyssys tenderly consideryd to graunt a writt of sub pena directyd to the said John Harynden commandyng hym by the same to appere by fore the kyng in his court of chauncery at a certeyne day and under a certeyne payne by your said lordships to be lymittyd ther to aunswer to the premysses And ferther to doo and to receyne therin as Right and consiens shall require for the loue of gode and in the way of cheryte" [John Morton, Cardinal Archbishop of Canterbury and Chancellor died 15 September 1500. He was appointed Archbishop and Chancellor in the 1480s and became a Cardinal in 1493. This suit indicates that John Horden, his wife Alice, and his oldest son Henry had all died by 15 September 1500, and Henry's widow Kateryn had married John Tylle by that date.]
