Notes for Robert Revell

Research Notes:

1474-93 Thomas of Higham's second son, Robert, is not much documented, but along with his brother Hugh he was involved in lead smelting in the period 1474 to 1493. C.J. Coxe suggests that Robert died without issue. His will is dated 1495. However, it is possible that he is the father of Elizabeth, niece of Hugh, who in 1498 married the grandson of William Wolhouse and Alice of Glapwell. [1]

1490 Robert Revel dated his will on 12 May at Shyrlande. "Roberte Revell by Wyll xij Maye, Miiiiciiijxxxv. willed the issues of his londs in Thathwayte, and in the will to fynde a prest to syng in the chappell of Shyrland. Viii li. iiij s. clere iiii li. Christ. Haslam Chaplyn. He hath a chambre by thappoynment of Rob. Revell. He occupieth j chalys and ij vestments whc be Mr. Revells." [2] Robert, eldest son of the founder of the chantry, by will dated 12th of May, 1490 (and not 1495, as in the Chantry Roll), gave "issues and profits of all his lands in Thathwayte and the Hill (North Wingfield), to fynd a priest to say and singe masse in the churche of Sherlaude by the space of foure score and nineteen yeares, and if a mortmayue mought be gotten in the meantime then to continue for ever or else be sold." [3]

1492 On 26 November, Thomas George of Trowell, Nottinghamshire, drover and innholder, was listed with several complaints including "and for not appearing before the justices of the bench Robert Reuyle [Revell] alias Revyll of Higham co. Derby, touching a debt of 20l." [4]
