Research Notes:

We have gathered notes for four persons named George Weise who lived in Cumberland County at this time, and one more who died in Mifflin Twp in 1809 (see Cumberland Will H-11, below). We are not certain about some of their parents, and their records might be confused here. We show George Wise of North Middleton as a son of Jacob and Anna Marie Wise of South Middleton, because of the 1824 bequest that Jacob of South Middleton made to George of North Middleton. Deeds dated 1825 and 1839 suggest that George Wise with wife Mary, of West Pennsboro and Mifflin, Cumberland County was related to, perhaps a son of, Felix Wise, who had sold the land to George Wise.

We have found little evidence to identify the parents of these men named George Wise:

We speculate, with little evidence, that George Wise of South Middleton was the son of Jacob Wise (1750-1817) and Agness.

We show George Wise of Carlisle as a son of Jacob and Sophia Wise, with little basis; note that George of Carlisle named George of South Middleton as an executor of his will.

1809 George Wise of Mifflin Twp, Cumberland County, wrote his will with a codicil dated February 27, 1809. The will was proved March 23, 1809. The will named 5 children: Catharine Railing wife of Henry Railing, George Wise, Elizabeth Wise, Mary Wise, and Michael Wise. Michael Wise was a minor under age 16. George's real estate was 19 acres in Mifflin Twp. Felix Wise and Yost Ruling were named executors. Witnessed by Johannes ? and Johannes Ruling. [20]

It is unclear which George Wise lived in Clark County, Ohio, as listed in the 1840 census.

1816 Polly Knettle was named as the wife of George Wise in the will of George Knettle of Mifflin Twp. [21]

1849 On 18 September, George Wise died in Clark County, Ohio.
