Notes for James Wise

1820 "James H Weise, of the borough of Carlisle,...saith that...he, in company with a number of young men, was standing before the house of Mr. Michael Miller, that whilst there, Messrs James Duncan, John P Helfenstein, Barnet Aughinbaugh, John M Farland, George Houk, and some other came forward, and asked whether it was true that they (the young men) were going to bury Findlay...Mr. Duncan spoke against the thing at some length...He believes the gentlemen left them under the belief that they would abandon the project-deponent himself proposed to the young men to postpone it thinking that by this means...it would be entirely dropt, and when he left them he was under that impression. James H Weise. Sworn ... before John Creigh." (The Carlisle Republican; 10-31-1820; Volume I; Issue 52; Page 206).
