Notes for Agnes Bulstrode

1398 September 21. Leicester. Pardon to Roger Starky of the county of Chester alias Roger Stark, servant of John Macclesfeld, parson of Denham, indicted for breaking the close of Agnes, late the wife of John Bulstrode, in the parish of Upton, and ravishing her on Thursday in Whitsun week alias on Thursday before Trinity in the twenty-first year [of Richard II]. By P.S. [1]

The alleged crime must have occurred at the end of May 1398 (Easter was April 7 in the Julian Calendar in 1398, so the Thursday before Trinity was May 30). Agnes Bulstrode married twice, to William Brudenell and to John Shobingdon. John and his son, William, by Agnes took the name Bulstrode.
