Notes for William Sanders

1739 William Sanders, child of James and Eliza Sanders, was born on November 30 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. He was baptized on April 24, 1740. [1]

1771 William Sanders, of Barbados Island, was named in the will of his father James Sanders, mariner, in Ann Arundel County, Maryland. Plantation "Sanders Chance" was willed to James and Robert Sanders. William (son of James) lived on Barbadoes Island. [2]

1778 James Sanders Sr, James Sanders Jr, William Sanders, and others signed the Oath of Fidelity in Anne Arundel County to "swear allegiance to the State of Maryland". Dated March 1. [3]

1781 William Sanders, South River. "To Governor and Council. Shortly after the enemy barges chased a schooner to shore near Sanders' landing, Thomas Dimmock landed in a canoe at dusk; he had his brother, "a Small lad" with him; he claims to be from Dorchester County and to be known to Joseph Tootle and Joseph Dawson; in a postscript Sanders says Dimmock "has a Good deal of Cont. money with him." Dated March 19. [4]

1783 William Sanders was taxed for Glorious Prospect, 465 acres. AA Road River Hundred. [5]

1783 William Sanders was taxed for Linthicums Lott, 75 acres. AA Road River Hundred. [6]

1783 William Sanders was taxed for Howell, 100 acres. AA Road River Hundred. [7]

1783 William Sanders was taxed for Laws Chance, 45 acres. AA Road River Hundred. [8]

1794 William Sanders's heirs of the Island of Barbados were named in the will of brother Robert Sanders of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, in Robert Reed's will. [9]

Research Notes:

This will names an uncle Robert and siblings different from this William. Perhaps it is the will of a son William.

1789 William Sanders of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, dated his will on November 12, 1789. Plantation "Glorious Prospect" (see 1783 tax) to son William, when he reaches age 21. Son John to inherit lands in South River left by uncle Robert Sanders, after John reaches age 21. If neither survive then lands to nieces and nephews, children of sisters Rebecca Walker (deceased) and Anne Green. Brothers-in-law Frederick Green and William Davis. Proved on September 27, 1791.
