c 1630 James Sanders, son of Roger Saunders and Frances Lake, was likely born about this time.

1659 William Taylard sold land to James Saunders, both of Ann Arundel County, Maryland. Deed dated June 21. The tract was on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay on the south branch of the northeast or back river, and might be named Wiske. [3]

1668 Richard Board granted to James Sanders of South River, in Anne Arundel County, a tract of land called Johns Cabbin Ridge. Bounded by Johns Cabbin Branch and Flatt Creek containing 30 acres and a second parcel of 265 acres. Dated August 1. [4]

1674 James Saunders and ffardinando Batee were jurors at an inquisition at the house of Nicholas Gassaway in Maryland. Dated November 12. [5]

1683 Land on gunpowder river surveyed for Thomas Litefoot was sold to James Sanders of Anne Arundell County. [6]

1684 The tract "Equality", 140 acres, was surveyed in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, for James Sanders. Dated January 30. [7]

1685 Thomas Lightfoot, surveyor, conveyed land to James Sanders of Anne Arundel County. [8]

Deed, April 9, 1685, Thomas Lightfoot, surveyor, conveying to James Sanders, planter, of Anne Arundel County, the 500-acre tract " James Forrest," on the south side of the north branch and at the head of Gunpowder River, adjoining to the tracts " Leafs Forrest," " Belts Prosperity," and " Nangemie," it being part of 1,000-acre and 500-acre tracts, both called " Expectation." Rebecca Lightfoot signs with grantor. Witnesses, Otho Holland, Joseph Williams. Grantor and wife Rebecca acknowledge May 1 before Thomas Taylor and William Burgess. Appendant receipt, undated, Sheriff Miles Gibson having received rent and alienation from Lightfoot.

1692 James Sanders was a representative from Anne Arundel County to the Maryland Assembly. Dated June 9. [9]

1692 Henry Ridgley, James Sanders, and others signed a letter to Majesties William and Mary of England thanking them for "redeeming us from the arbitrary will and pleasure of a Tyrannical Popish Government (under which we have so long groaned)" [10]

1692 Henry Ridgley, James Sanders, and others signed a letter, to the Kings Majesties, as members of the Assembly of Freemen and Representatives of the Province of Maryland listing complaints about Lord Baltimore, especially the hogshead tax on tobacco. Dated September 19. [11]

1692 Justices Henry Ridgley and James Sanders and Ferdinando Battee and others signed a letter, to the Captain General of Maryland, supporting Henry Bonner as clerk of Anne Arundel County, rahter than appointment of a new clerk. Dated October 29. [12]

1694 James Sanders, burgess of the house, gave 300 pounds of tobacco towards building a free school. [13]

1694 James Sanders and Samuel Young made the inventory for the estate of Maren Duvall. Dated September 3. [14] [15]

1694 "On the 18th of October an act was passed making the town land at Severn in Ann Arundel County, where the town was formerly, (which was no doubt the town at Proctor's mentioned in 1683,) a town, port and place of trade. and Major Hammond, Major Edward Dorsey, Mr. John Bennett, Mr. John Dorsey, Mr. Andrew Norwood, Mr. Philip Howard, Mr. James Sanders and the Hon. Nicholas Greenberry, Esq., a member of the Council, were appointed to purchase and lay out 100 acres of land in lots and streets, and with open spare places to be left on which to erect a church, market-house, and other public buildings." 1696 An act was passed for keeping good rules and order in the town of Annapolis. The body corporate then appointed included James Sanders. [17]

1698 "Samuel Matthews a negro of Mr. James Saunders Sr was baptised the 22 January 1698/9 in the Parish of All Hallows by Mr. Coalbatch Minister." [18]

1698-1702 On 27 October in the 9th year (c 1702) of the reign of our Lord King William the III of England, between Abraham Desap to James Sanders the older. A tract of land called Lapstone lying on the west side of Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of a river called the South River adjoining William Pennington's lands containing 300 acres. A second parcel of 50 acres called Lapston. For and in consideration of 12 thousand pounds of good merchantable tobacco. Recorded 28 March 1698. [19]

1699 The earliest notice was made in Ann Arundell of the baptism of a negro slave. [20]

Samuel Matthews a negro of Mr. James Sanders Sr was baptised the 22 January 1698/9 in the Parish of All Hallows by Mr. Coalbatch Minister. Ann Arundell Co.

1700 James Saunders, one of his majesties Justices of the provincial court, heard a statement from Dan Palmer. [21]

Hon. James Saunders, Esq., of Anne Arundel County, was one of His Majesty's Council, an Asst. Justice to the Court of Chancery and heard requests for the rerecording of deeds after the fire of 1704. The name of his first wife is not known. She was the mother of his three children: James, Robert and Ann.

1706 James Saunders and others ackowledged the baptism of Mary, daughter of John and Mary Payn. Dated April 5. [22] [23]

1706 James Saunders, esq., was present at the Chancery Court in Annapolis. Dated May 10. [24] [25] James Saunders heard a case involving Charles Carroll and Robert Smith. [26]

1706 James Sanders of "All Hallow's Parish, married Elizabeth Jones, widow of William Jones, on June 25. [27]

1707 James Sanders Esq. brought two deeds to be recorded, which had previously been burned. One deed was for a tract of 250 acres called Lapsland?, a conveyance from Abraham Delax?. Another deed from Richard Board of ? tracts of land both containing by estimation two hundred & ninety two acres. A deed from Richard Beard, perhaps one of the two previously described, was for a tract called "Johns Cabbin ridges". Dated January 14, 1706/07. [28]

c 1700 We might have incorrectly misplaced some notes for James Sanders, senior or his son, James Sanders Junior, under the wrong person, if the original document did not clarify which James Sanders was being named.

1707 The will of James Sanders Sr was dated 24 November, 1702 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Proved 20 May 1707. [29] [30]

To son James, "Batchelor's Hope," 200 acres on South River Ridge and adjoining lands of Wm. Richardson and Richard Clarke.

To son James, "Equality," 140 acres, on South River Ridge. In event of death of son James, land to pass to son Robert.
To sons James and Robert, "Jameses Forrest," 500 acres (half to each) on Gunpowder River, Baltimore County.
To son Robert, "Lapston," dwelling plantation of 350 acres., if Robert dies, then to son James, then to daughter Anne Chambers.
To son James, four negroe men and two women named Sam, Harry, Petter, Will, Judith - Harrys wife, and Bess.
To son Robert, five negroe men and one woman named Mingoe, Jack, Dick, Tobitt, Jemmei & his wife
To son James, £300 sterling, in the hands of Mr. Micajah Perry and Company, merchants in London
