Notes for Quicksall

Research Notes:

We are researching William Quicksall, who immigrated to New Jersey, America. We suspect that Henry Quicksall may have been his father, based on coincidence of time and place of the birth of William, son of Henry, in Derbyshire. We seek further evidence to clarify this potential relationship. Note that William was named on documents in New Jersey in 1689, suggesting that he was an adult at that time.

1667 Thomas Whicksall, son of Henery Whicksall, was baptized on April 4, 1667, at Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. [1] [2]

1670 William Quicksall, son of Henry Quicksall, was baptized on October 23, at Dronfield, Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [3] [4]

1683 Henry Quicksall died on December 29 and was buried at Holmleys, Dore, Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire, England. [5] [6]

"Two brothers, John and William Quicksall, linen-weavers, emigrated from England to New Jersey at an early date." [7] [8] [9] We seek evidence, but have not yet found any, about brother John, in New Jersey.

Quicksall records in England:

1689 William Quicksall of Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey purchased a tract he named Boulsover.

Bolsover parish is east of Chesterfield parish, England. Dronfield parish is north of Chesterfield. All are in the northeast part of Derbyshire, England, just south of Sheffield, Yorkshire [10]

1405 John Wyksall [Quicksall?](exchanged with John Access, 9th February) was vicar of Dronfield parish, Derbyshire, England. [11]

1565 Francis Phillipott alias Quicksall married Joan Holland in Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [12]

1575 Thomas Quicksall married Elizabeth Mosley in Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [13]

1580 Edmund Quicksall married Grace Sykes in Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [14]

1591 Thomas Quicksall married Grace Cowper in Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [15]

1598 Thomas Quicksall married Elizabeth Pinder in Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [16]

1599 John Quicksall, son of Thomas Quicksall, was baptized on May 28, 1599 at Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. [17] [18]

1601 Helene Quicksall, daughter of Thomas Quicksall, was baptized on January 24, 1601 at Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. [19]

1609 Dorothie Quicksall, daughter of Thomas Quicksall, was baptized on December 9, 1609 at Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. [20] [21]

1612 Dorothie Quicksall, daughter of Thomas Quicksall, was buried on April 20, 1612 at Dronfield, Derbyshire, England. [22]

1614 John Quicksall and others made the inventory of the goods of Roger Lee of Sheffield. [23]

1628 John Quicksall married Elizabeth Ingmanthorpe in Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [24]

1648 Marie, the daughter of John Quicksall was buried in September, at Dronfield Parish, Derbyshire. [25]

1651 William Whicksoll and Sarah Jacksonn were married on February 14 at Norton, Derbyshire, England. [26]

1678 William Quicksall was overseer of the poor in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. [27]

1679 Nathaniel Revell and Thomas Revell made a bond in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. [28]

1689-90 William Quicksall gave the name Bolsover to his tract in New Jersey, which was surveyed by Thomas Revell. [29]. Bolsover Castle is in Bolsover parish, Derbyshire. [30]

1689 John Quicksall purchased a tract in New Jersey from George Hutchinson.

1692 An assessment was made of the town of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Wm. Quicksall and wife were listed with one servant. Dated April 8. [31] This is after the 1689 land record of New Jersey.
