Notes for Bartlett Hinson

1747 A deed signed by Ambrose Joshua Smith of Louisa County, Virginia was witnessed by Benjamin and Bartlet Henson. [1] This suggests that Benjamin and Bartlett were age 21+, so born before 1726. If so, then Benjamin is likely Bartlett's brother, rather than his son.

1755 Bartlet Hinson was involved in a court case against Elizabeth Gilbert at the Halifax, Virginia county court. Dated January 15. [2]

1763 Bartlett Henson was taxed in Anson County, North Carolina. [3]

1790 Bartlet Hanson lived in Burke County, North Carolina in a household with Males: 4 (age Under 16), 3 (age 16 and over); Females: 3, Slaves: 6. [4]

1800 Bartlet Henson lived in Burke County, North Carolina in a household with Males: 1 (age Under 10), 1 (age 10 thru 15), 2 (age 16 thru 25), and 1 (age 45 and over); Females: 1 (age Under 10), 1 (age 16 thru 25), 1 (age 26 thru 44), and 1 (age 45 and over); Slaves: 9. [5] Another Bartlet Henson lived in Burke County, North Carolina was listed adjavent, in a household with Males: 1 (age Under 10), and 1 (age 26 thru 44); Females: 1 (age Under 10), and 1 (age 16 thru 25). [6]

Research Notes:

Here are some maps, to help place the counties and parishes: [Website, historical districts, counties, and parishes of South Carolina.]

Research ambiguity: John Hinson, born about 1680, may have had sons named Bartlett and Philip. John Hinson also had a grandson named Bartlett through his son, Philip. John also had a great grandson named Bartlett, son of Benjamin, son of Philip. I am uncertain about distinguishing the notes for these men. I have put notes from Burke County, North Carolina in the notes for Bartlett Hinson, son of John. I have put notes for Bartlett Hinson, who lived and died in Fairfield County, South Carolina in the notes for Bartlett, son of Philip. I have put notes for Bartlett Hinson, who died in Anson County, North Carolina in the notes for Bartlett, son of Benjamin, except for a tax record of 1763, which is listed in the notes for Bartlett, son of John, since the other two Bartlett men would not be of taxable age at that time.
