Notes for William Reed

1775 On 25 Nov 1775, William Reed sold land from Clarks Inheritance to Thomas Wilson. William Reed had inherited the land from his father William Reed. Note that on 18 October, 1779 Thomas Wilson sold 100 acres of Clarks Inheritance back to William Reed. [1]

1776 William Reed of Anne Arundel county, perhaps this one, was at Valley Forge in Captain Richard Dorsey's artillery company. He was a private in Captain Dorsey's unit on 17 November, 1777. He took the Oath of Allegiance before Richard Harwood on March 1, 1778. [2] [3]

1777 On 24 January, William Reed and others signed a Petition of Capt. Nathaniel Smith's Company, to "Apply for discharge since they received no satisfaction from Capt. Smith; regret lack of pay; rations and other necessaries were promised by the Convention of Maryland; agree to enlist again in another "core" but not under Capt. Smith. [4]

1778 William Reed and others signed the Oath of Fidelity on March 1, in Anne Arundel County to "swear allegiance to the State of Maryland". [5]

1779 Thomas Wilson sold 100 acres of Clarks Inheritance to William Read, both gentlemen of Anne Arundel County, Maryland on October 18. William Reed had previously sold the land to Thomas Wilson on November 25, 1775. [6]

1783 Nelson Read appeared on the assessment list for Anne Arundel County, Maryland taxed for Clarks Inheritance, pt, 100 acres. Anne Arundel Road River Hundred. William Read (William named in the 1750 entry, or son William?) was also taxed for Clarks Inheritance, 80 acres. James Sanders was taxed for Clarks Inheritance, pt, 103 acres. [7]

Research Notes:

The children listed here were named as children of William Reed from the records of All Hollow's Parish in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Alternatively, they could plausibly be children of William, son of brother Nelson.
