Notes for Herr

"Between 1554 and 1565 two men named Christian Heer [Herr] were recorded in the parish of Toss, near Winterthur, Zürich. Unfortunately, baptismal records between 1565 and 1594 are missing. In 1634 there were eight families named Heer/Herr living in the parish of Toss. On December 14, 1671, Valentine Hutwohl wrote a letter that listed Mennonite arrivals in the Palatinate, among whom were "Christens Herr, aged 30; wife Grietgen Lotscher, 28." Next on the list were "Hans Herr, aged 20; wife Elsbeth Lotscher, aged 22; no children. Have linen sheets." I believe this Christens Herr was Kristen Her (HH1), one of the Anabaptist "Ministers of the Northeast" in the Kraichgau in 1672, and that Hans Herr (HH2) was his brother and the one who immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1717.164 This disagrees with Herr traditions, but I believe is a more accurate account of the history of this family."
