Research Notes:

Several towns and churches named in the notes and sources above are in the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany and are shown on a map dated 1715 (below). [27]

Gerabronn was known as Gerhardsbronn prior to the 17th century. [28] Gerhardsbronn is in the pink area in the middle.

Niederstetten and Oberstetten were directly north of Gerhardsbronn (shown in and near the yellow island in the green area).

Weckelweiler is southeast of Gerabronn (on border with green peninsula into pink) and is north of Kirchberg [an der Jagst] (in pink, south of the green peninsula).

Saalbach is east of Blaufelden, northeast of Gerabronn.

1813 The Deanery of Blaufelden included several churches, including 6) Gerabronn, 10) Niederstetten, 11) Oberstetten, 16) Wallhausen, and 17) Wiesenbach. [29]

A biosketch reported [33]:

The name Weigel-Weigl-Weigele goes back to the 12th century, when people adopted family names … At one time the Weigels were one family. It is likely the spelling of the name was not changed until the family separated, and branches of it settled in different parts of the country (of Germany). There are the Bavarian Weigls, Saxon Weigels, and further north, along the Baltic Sea, the name appeared as Weigele. The Bavarian and Saxon Weigels preoccupied themselves mostly with matters of religion and in printing and publishing books … The Bavarian Weigls remained Catholics, but some of the Saxon Weigels became followers of Luther. A certain Saxon by the name of Valentin Weigel, frequently referred to as "Der Grosse (Great) Herder," became a follower of Luther and was an Evangelical pastor for a while. Becoming dissatisfied with Luther's preaching, he started a sect of mystics, which he called the "Weigelaner." Born at Naundorf near Grossenhain in 1533 (father: Michael Weigel), he studied at Leipzig and Wittenburg and from 1567 to his death was a preacher at Zschopan, near Chemnitz. He emphasized the necessity of internal unction (an anointing of Spirit; see 1 John 2:20) and illumination. He taught … that knowledge does not come from without, but from the Spirit operating upon our spirit within. In cosmology, Valentin Weigel stands near Paracelsus … (After his death), his writings were published from 1604 to 1618 in various places, and Weigelanism became widely spread. His opponents represented him (falsely) as a dangerous revolutionary who aimed at the overthrow of all political and social order.

A researcher reported [34]:

Valentin Weigel was born in Ansbach, Germany. Valentin and his wife raised their family in the village of Saalbach, so his wife may have been from this village. Saalbach, located in the German state of Baden-Wuntemberg, lies just a few miles west of Ansbach, which is a city in the southern state of Bavaria. The only child of Valentin that a previous researcher obtained information on was Johann Martin, although the records refer to their children, so they had more than one child. It is not known when Valentin Weigel died; he is probably buried at Saalbach, Germany.

Other reports:

1673 Veltin, a farmer from Oberstteten, married Barbara Keidel. They had children Anna Maria, Ann Margaretha, Appollonia, Catharina, Leonard, George, Appolonia, Michael, and Elizabeth.

Valentin and Barbara Weigel raised their family in Saalbach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, which is a few miles west of Ansbach.

Veltin then married Maria Funcher and had child John Martin.

Valentine Weigel, came to America with his wife and four children in 1709. Martin Weigell arrived in Philadelphia in 1732; as did Torothea Weigell at the age of 20.
