Notes for Jacob Greenawalt

1860 Jacob Greenawalt (age 57) lived at Sewickley Township, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania with Jackson Graham (age 32), Sarah A Greenawalt (age 28), Daniel F Greenawalt (age 5), Mary A Greenawalt (age 3). [1]

1878 Jacob Greenawalt wrote his will in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. [2]:

In the name of God Amen I Jacob Greenawalt of Sewickly Township Wesmoreland County Pennsylvania being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament. I direct my just debts and funeral expenses to be first paid. I give and devise my homestead farm, whereon I now reside, to my daughter Martha Jane married to Fletcher Hodgden, the coal underlying said farm farm to be disposed of as follows ~ One half thereof to the children of my son Abraham the other half thereof to the children of my said daughter Martha Jane. The said Martha Jane Hodgden and Fletcher Hodgden is to have said "Homestead Farm" during their natural lives, or the life of the survivor of them. And at their death the same to vest in their children ~ I give and devise my farm in Sewickley Township in said County known as the "Fisher Farm" adjoining lands of Robert Fulton, F.R. McGreivs theirs and others containing one hundred and forty acres to Martha Jane the wife of Fletcher Hodgden to be used and enjoyed by the said Martha Jane and her said husband during their natural lifetime respectively, and afterwards to their children in equal shares, to them their heirs and assigns forever. ~ Saving and excepting however Fifty acres off said "Fisher Farm" which I hereby devise and bequeath to Catharine Ann Smeltzer her heirs and assigns forever also devise to said Catherine Ann Smeltzer as much of my household goods remaining at my death. For an outfit as she may select and to include two cows and a side saddle.

To my son Abraham I devise and bequeath the "Billhawser Farm" in Sewickey Township for and during the term of his natural life, and that of his present wife and at their death to go to their children _____ share and share alike. I have already advanced to my son Abraham as payments for different farms as follows, on his homestead farm 4000# on the Funk Farm 3000# on the Bell Farm 4080# in stock and money 600#, and they are to be considered as on account of his share of my Estate, and he is not to account for the same in any manner to any person after my decease.

The "Robbins Hill Farm" I give and devise to the children of my daughter Sarah Ann imtermarried with Jackson Graham. The proceeds of said share to be given to my said daughter Sarah Ann during her natural life however, under the control and management of my Executors ~ I direct my Executors hereinafter named to apply the sum of 300# for the purchase of Tomb Stones for my grave, and the further share of Two hundred dollars 200# to the keeping up of repairs of the Means Hill graveyard ~ I give to my son Abraham Five Thousand dollars of Raid Road Stock in Cowellsville Raid Road Company ~ I also direct my Executor to expend the sum of One hundred and fifty dollars for the purpose of erecting tombstones at the graves of my Father and Mother in Funks grave yard.

The rest and residue of my personal property I gave and bequeath to my son Abraham and my daughter Martha Jane share and Share alike.

I hereby appoint my son Abraham, Caleb Greenawalt Esq and Fletcher Hodgden my Executers of this my last will, revoking all former ones by me at any time made. Witness my hand and seal this 15th day of April A.D. Eighteen hundred and Sixty Nine 1869.

This is a Codicil to my last will and Testiment. I give and devise unto Catharine Ann Smelcer my housekeeper Thirty five hundred dollars in place of the fifty acres of land devised to her in the Fisher Farm which is devised to my daughter Martha Jane the wife of Flatcher Hodgedon and there children I hereby revoke the fifty acres land claus in the Fisher Farm.
I revoke the close in my will giving Abraham wife a life interest in the Bilhawser Farm. ~ I also direct my Executors to sell my three 3 houses and Lots in Opossom Hollow. Known, no one. Joining Lots with Andrew Todd ~ No tow as the Store house lot. ~ no three, known as Christy Lot. The proceeds of the sales of the sade lots to be applied to Catharn Ann Smelcer., devise the said Lots to be sold as soon after my decease as convenitley can be don.
As witness my hand and seal this 21, day of April A.D. 1870.
April 13, 1878 Legally proved and approved same day recorded and Letters Testamentany granted to the within named Executors, who were sworn before me. W.B. Snodgrass Register.
