Notes for John Curtis

1729 Thomasin Pancoast, daughter of Joseph Pancoast of Mansfield, and Joshua Wright, son of Joshua Wright of Chesterfield, were married on April 16 at Upper Springfield meeting, Burlington County. Witnessed by Elizabeth Pancoast and others. [1]

1734 John Curtis, son of Thomas, and Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Thomasin Pancoast, were married on the 4th day, 2nd month in Chesterfield. [2] [3] [4]

1741 Benjamin Pancoast, son of Joseph Pancoast of Mansfield Twp, and Sarah Hugg were married on May 20 in the city of Burlington. Witnessed by John and Elizabeth Curtis and others. [5]

1745 John Curtis was a freeholder in Mansfield Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. [6]

1747 John Curtis and Mercy Rockhill declared, for the second time, their intention to marry at the Chesterfield meeting held on 4th of 12th month, 1747 (February 4, 1748). [7]

1748 The marriage of John Curtis and Mercy Rockhill was orderly as reported to the Chesterfield meetiong on 3 of month 1, 1747/48 (March 3, 1748). [8]

1760 The will of Robert Rockhill [Mercy's father] named daughter Marcy Curtis, now wife of John Curtis and accounted for her 5 children, which she had by the said John, when of full age. [9]

1762 The will of Joseph Pancoast [Elizabeth's father] named daughter Elizabeth Curtis' 2 children as Thomas and Grace. [10]

1766 The will of John Curtis yeoman of Mansfield Twp, Burlington County was dated 7 May and proved 4 August. It named wife Marsey, my personal estate and 1/3 of rents of plantation. Sons, Thomas and Jonathan, said plantation, they paying 200 pounds to my son John. To sons Robert and Clem, 150 pounds each. Daughters, Grace Shreeve and Elizabeth Curtis, 15 pounds each. Executors wife Marsey, and my son Jonathan, and friend Caleb Shreeve. Witnesses Joseph Rockhill, Grace Hancock, Thomas Folkes [perhaps the spouse of Elizabeth's sister, Mary Pancoast Foulke]. [11] [12]

1766 Ann Pancoast, sister, and children of John Curtis, brother, and children of Joseph Curtis, brother, were named in the will of Elizabeth Cooper of Burlington County, which was dated on October 20. [13]

1767 Mercy Curtis and children; Jonathan, John, Elizabeth, Robert, and Clement, were received at the Burlington Meeting by certificate from the Chesterfield Monthly Meeting. [14]
