1917 John Ripkey registered for the draft on June 5 in Story County, Iowa. He was born 11 Sep 1891 in Oceola, Missouri, lived on Rt 4 in Ames, Iowa, was a farmer, and was married. [1] [2]

1920 On January 16, John Ripkey (age 28) lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Cora and Henry Markham, in Speedwell Twp, St. Clair, Missouri. John was a farm laborer. He was born in Missouri, his father in New York, and his mother in Missouri. [3]

1920 In mid-February, Ida Ripkey (age 21) and her daughter Marjorie Ripkey (age 1 4/12), lived witn Ida's mother Allie M. Groth (age 53). Ida was divorced, and Allie was a widow. Ida was born in Iowa, as was her father. Marjorie was born in Iowa, and her father was born in Missouri. Allie was born in Illinois, and her parents were born in Pennsylvania. [4]

1921 John Ripkey, age 30, and Iva Kersey were married on September 24 in Greene County, Iowa. John Ripkey, son of John Ripkey and Mary Clnck, was born in St Clair County, IA. [5]

1930 On April 8, John J. Ripkey (age 38) lived in Milford, Story, Iowa. He was born in Missouri and was a farmer. His father was born in New York and his mother in Missouri. His wife Iva (age 41) was born in Iowa. Her father was born in England and her mother in Indiana. The children in the household, all born in Iowa, were Arlene (age 6), Marie (age 4 10/12), Velva (age 3 8/12), Vera (age 2 6/12), and Theda (age 7/12). John's age at first marriage was recorded as 30 and Iva's as 33. [6]

1942 John Jacob Ripkey registered for the draft in Schell City, Missouri. He was born on September 11, 1891 in Saint Clair County, Missouri. He had characteristics: Brown hair, Blue eyes, and 5-6 height. John Jacob Ripkey's occupation was Ranch Farmer. [7]

1950 Iva E Ripkey (age 61, born in Iowa, widowed) lived in Gilbert, Story County, Iowa, in a household with Virginia L Ripkey (17), and John A Ripkey (15). [8]

1974 Iva Ripkey died in May; last residence Story, Iowa; born on 11 December 1888. [9]

Iva Evelyn Ripkey

Iva Evelyn Ripkey was born December 11, 1888 on a farm east of Ames. She died May 7, 1974 at the age of 85 years and 5 months in her home at 1417 Kellogg, Ames, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ann Kinney and Henry Kersey. She was a life long resident of the Ames Area. She was married on September 24, 1921. They were tenant farmers until she moved to Gilbert on March 1, 1936 and lived there until moving to Ames in January 1957.

She was a member of Gilbert United Church of Christ (Congregational) and Women't Society, also a member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Church of God in Ames, Diodema Class of the United Methodist Church, Ames, as well as the W.C.T.U. and V.F.W. Auxiliary in Ames.

She will be remembered by a host of friends, young and hold, and by her seven children: Mrs. James (Arlene) Shuey of Gilbert; Mrs. Carl (Marie) Heih, Cambridge; Mrs. James (Velva) Hogfeldt, Rockford, Ill.; Vera Ripkey, Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Kenneth (Virginia) Otto, Midland, Mich.; John Ripkey, Boone, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren whom she loved very dearly and rejoiced in there visits.

She was pre-deceased by an infant son, her parents and 8 brothers and sisters.

Iva Ripkey will long be remembered by her thoughtfulness and kindnesses to others and especially her love for little children. For the past fifteen years she was cared and guided numerous little ones, who in return loved her and called her "Grandma."

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9. 1974 at the Stevens Memorial Chapel, Ames, Iowa with the Rev. Paul H. Beckman officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, Iowa.

Stevens Memorial Chapel was in charge.

Pallbearers were Ronn Stenberg, Lou Foushe, Art Fleenor, S.J. Klassen, Jerry McNertney, Morris Almfeldt and Joe Waterman. [12]

1972 Carl Otto Frank Hein, spouse of daughter Frances Marie, died on December 27 at Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa and was buried at Nevada Municipal Cemetery, Nevada, Story County, Iowa. Carl Otto Frank Hein was born on July 20, 1899. [16] [17]

CARL HEIN

Carl Hein, 73, of Cambridge died at University Hospital in Iowa City on Wednesday evening.

Hein was a retired John Deere employee.

Rev. Thomas Bauder will officiate at the funeral at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Faith Bible Church, Cambridge. Interment will be in the Nevada Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons, Carlos of Clarion and Robert of EuGaulee, Fla.; one daughter, Delores of Cambridge; two sisters Anna Gile of Kassen, Minn. and Rose Lemeier of Bellflower, Calif.

Friends and relatives may call at Cooper's Funeral Home in Maxwell.

1989 Daughter Frances Marie Ripkey Hein died on February 24 and was buried at Nevada Municipal Cemetery, Nevada, Story County, Iowa. Frances Marie Ripkey Hein was born on May 26, 1925. [18] [19]

2016 Daughter Vera A. Ripkey died on January 24 at Ames, Story County, Iowa and was buried at Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, Story County, Iowa. Vera A. Ripkey was born on October 14, 1927. [20] [21]

Vera A. Ripkey was born October 14, 1927 to John and Iva (Kersey) Ripkey in Story County, Iowa. Vera graduated from Gilbert High School in 1945 and then attended Buena Vista College for a year and a half.

She enlisted as a nurse in the U.S. Army on December 14, 1950 and served until June 10, 1952. She was stationed stateside in California during the Korean War.

Vera was self-employed in childcare for 27 years, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the Congregational Church in Gilbert.

Vera passed away at 88 years of age on January 24, 2016 at Riverside North in Ames.

Vera is survived by her sisters, Velva (Jim) Hogfeldt of Rockford, Ill, Theda Gammon of Ames and Virginia Otto of Indian River, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews. Vera is also survived by her very special friend, Kelly Netcott, of which she treated like her adopted son.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Arlene Shuey and Marie Hein; and one brother, John Ripkey.
