Notes for Barbara Hosler

1790 Barbara Hossler, daughter of Abraham Hossler and Christina Hossler, was born September 20, 1790 and was baptized on October 18, 1790, with Barbara Froscher as a sponsor, at Fissel's (Jerusalem) Union Church, Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania. [1] [2]

1804 Barbara Hassler (age 14) orphan and minor child of Abraham Hassler, prayed the court to appoint Dewalt Snyder guardian over her person and estate. Dated August 22. [3]

1803 On the death of her father, Barbara petitioned the court as follows (it appears to be her own writing): "if the court Plese to bind Dewalt Shnyder for a cortine (guardian) for me barbra Halser 14 year alt (old) from me". Signed barbra Hasler. The Court approved the guardian above named.

1860 Barbara Gantz (age 70, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [4]

1870 Barbara Gantz (age 77, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [5]

1871 Barbara Gantz died on March 30, 1871, aged 80y 7m 10d, and was buried at New Hope United Church of Christ Cemetery, Glen Rock, York County, Pennsylvania. [6] [7]

1917 Lena Shaffer, daughter of John Gantz and Barbara Hastler, died on May 20, 1917, at age 84, in Shrewsbury Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. Lena Shaffer was born on September 17, 1832, in York County, Pennsylvania. [8]

John Gantz, born 1790, was plausibly the spouse of Barbara Hosler. [9]

A biosketch of a son of John Gantz and Barbara Hosler reports [10]:

John H. Gantz, born in York County, March 29, 1820, is the fourth child and eldest son in a family of three sons and five daughters of John and Barbara (Hosler) Gantz. He was reared on a farm, and acquired a fair German and English education. He was married in 1841, in Shrewsbury Township, to Miss Lydia, a daughter of John Miller, and a native of York County. His wife died in 1850, having had three children; one, Margaret Ann, died at the age of five years, the two living are John W. and Susanna, wife of Adam Eighner. He was next married, October 5, 1851, to Mrs. Lucinda (Kerlinger) Ziegler. They have had five children—two have died: Ellen, aged three years, and Balinda, aged thirteen years. The three living are Eliza Ann, wife of L. R. Lentz; Alice, wife of George Bollinger, and Amelia, wife of Henry Allison. Mr. Gantz served his country in the nine months' service, entering the army in 1862, and participated in numerous skirmishes. He is a member of Post No. 342, G. A. R., at Shrewsbury. He is connected with the Lutheran Church, and his wife with the Reformed Church. He is a Republican and a hard working farmer, having acquired his property by his own labor.
