1804 Abraham Hassler's eldest son, Jacob, petitioned the Lancaster County Orphans' Court, on December 19, to decide whether to partition Abraham's land among the heirs, or to value it as a whole. "Your petitioner's father, Abraham Hosler lately died intestate leaving a widow named Christina and eight children namely your petitioner Jacob Hosler, Magdalena Hosler, Elizabeth Hosler, Elizabeth Hosler, Barbara Hosler, Christina Hosler, George Hosler, Catharine Hosler, and John Hosler lawful issue to survive him...That the said intestate died seized of (owning) a plantation and tract of land...containing about one hundred and fifty acres. There fore value the same together and undivided at the sum of Nine hundred and sixty three dollars and thirthy three cents - lawful money of Pennsylvania..."

The plantation should not be divided and was valued at $963.33. Jacob Hassler, eldest son prayed to be permitted to take the land at the valuation and the court agreed. [8]

1805 After Abraham Hassler died, the farm purchased in 1798 was awarded to his eldest son, Jacob, who then sold it within one year to his Uncle Ludwig Bortner. [9]

Research Notes:

"It is thought that he lived on his father's property in Codorus Twp. until it was sold in 1843, and that he then went to Ohio as we find in Morrow County, Ohio, among the deeds that 'Jacob Hosler buys a lot in Johnsville in 1860' and 'Jacob Hosler sells to Levi Hosler in 1862 in Twp, 21, Morrow County, Ohio.'." [10]
