Notes for David Mellinger

1806 Ann, wife of David Mellinger and daughter of Christian and Ann Newcomer, died on March 19 and was buried at Habecker Mennonite Cemetery, Manor Ridge, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [1]

1807 Ann Newcomet, of Manor Twp, Lancaster County, widow of Christian Newcomet, dated her will on April 4, 1807. The will named, among other children, deceased daughter Ann, wife of David Mellinger. Son John Newcomet and son-in-law David Mellinger were named executors. Proved on May 28, 1813. [2]

1844 Barbara, wife of David Mellinger, died on April 13 and was buried at Habecker Mennonite Cemetery, Manor Ridge, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [3]

1849 David Mellinger of Manor Twp dated his will on March 6, 1849 in Lancaster County. The estate was to be appraised and son Christian was to have first rights to purchase it. $1500 was set aside for the care of son David, a lunatic. Arrangements were made for the care of Susanna, wife of son David. After the death of son David, the remainder was to be divided among the six children of David (senior). Son Christian was named executor. The will was proved on May 20, 1850. [4]

1851 David Mellinger and wife Susanna sold an island in the Susquehanna River to Jacob Witmer. David Mellinger had purchased the island from the executors of the estate of Jacob Witmer, late of Manor Twp, by order of the Lancaster County Orphans Court, subject to payments to Elana, the widow of Jacob Witmer. The deed was dated March 24 and was recorded on August 7, 1863. [5]

1859 David Hershey Mellinger died on May 4, 1859 (aged 83/89y 5m 3d) and was buried at Habecker Mennonite Cemetery, Manor Ridge, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [6]

1862 Heirs of David Mellinger, whose will was proved on May 20, 1850, were parties to a deed after the death of David Mellinger, lunatic and son of David Mellinger, deceased. The will of David Mellinger [senior] had placed a lein on his estate for the support of son David, a lunatic. After the death of son David, the lein was removed. The other heirs were named as Barbara Bachman, Fanny Eberly wife of Jacob Eberly, and Susan Mellinger (daughters of David Mellinger, senior, deceased); David Swarr, Ann married to Joel Wenger, Jacob Swarr, Susan Swarr, Martin Swarr, and Amos Swarr (children of Elizabeth Swarr, deceased daughter of David Mellinger senior); and Benjamin M Mellinger and David M Mellinger, children of David Mellinger, lunatic. Those heirs released Christian Mellinger, the current owner of land from the estate, from further obligations. Dated April 20. [7]

There may be a different David Mellinger (15 Mar 1762 - 4 Sep 1848, Shelby County, Ohio) of Lancaster County, who married Lydia Hatfield (15 Mar 1762 - 4 Sep 1848) on September 22, 1791 in Hardin County, Kentucky. [12] [13]

We seek clarification about which David, if either, was a son of Benedict Mellinger and Maria Hershey.
