1914 Elizabeth Stoner Ketterman obituary.
The Lanark Gazette, Lanark, Illinois, September 16, 1914. [7] [8]

Elizabeth Stoner Ketterman was born at Martinsburg, Blair county, Pa., February 26, 1829, and departed this life September 12, 1914, at her home in Lanark.

She was one of twelve children born to John and Lydia Stoner, of whom all lived to ripe old age, excepting one who died in childhood. Three brothers survive her, namely, Christian of Martinsburg, Pa., Levi, of New Berlin, Ohio; and David of this city.

On March 22d, 1849, sha was married to John Ross Ketterman of Martinsburg, Pa., with whom she lived a devoted and faithful life until parted by death February 25th, 1907, when the husband passed away. Seven children blessed this union. The two oldest, Jacob and William, died in infancy. Five lived and grew to maturity, of whom John S., of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Jennie of this city, are still living. David Ross, Lottie Ketterman Dohner, and Daniel B., preceded their parents to the other share.

Shortly after their marriage they moved to Goshen, Ind., where they resided a short time and in the spring of 1854 moved to Carroll county and began pioneer life on the prairie six miles east of where Lanark is now situated, where tha family lived until the Spring of 1904 when they moved into Lanark.

In her early womanhood, she gave her heart to the Lord and joined the River Brethren church, to which she remained a humble, consistent member.

For a number of years, she was unable to attend church but her bible was her constant companion and she had a great desire to go home and be at rest. She longed to pass over and when the end came she was conscious to the last end went to sleep to wake up on the other shore.

She was a woman of strong character and noble traits, a home lover, where she enjoyed herself most. She was a loving, self-sacrificing mother, never deeming any task too great to do for her loved ones. She was always hopeful, never pessimistic and the bad things could always be worse. She looked on the sunny side of life, rather than the dark and those who knew her best loved her most for her noble traits and loving counsel.

She leaves to mourn her departure three brothers, two children, eight grandchildren and many friends.

Her funeral was held from the home at two oclock Monday afternoon, Rev, Henry Trump, of Polo, officiating, assisted by Elders Abram Zook, of Coleta, and P. F. Eckerle, of Lanark - Interment in Lanark cemetery.
