Notes for Reuben Pickett

The estate records of Reubin Pickett, who died in 1807, show that he was a son of Micajah and Kisannah Pickett.

1807 "We the appraisers of the estate of Reuben Pickett deceased, do appraise one negroe woman named Phillis and three of her children, named Daves, Willis, and Guy (which said Negroe woman and her increase was gifted to the said Deceased by Micajah Pickett Senior and Kisanah Pickett his wife the father and mother of the said Deceased, by Deed bearing date the twelfth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred separately and distinct from the rest of the property of the daid deceased at the price of six hundred and twenty five dollars. Given under our hands this the 11th day November, 1807. … Phillis we value at $300, Dave at $145, Willis at $130, Guy at $50." [1]

1807 James Pickett appeared in court and applied for letters of administration of all and singular the goods & chattels, rights and credits of Reuben Pickett late of this district deceased, administration was duly granted and committed to the said James Pickett. Dated September 3. Bond posted by James Pickett, William Pickett and Makijah Pickett. [2] [3] [4]

1807 The inventory for Reuben Pickett was filed in Fairfield, South Carolina on November 11. James Pickett held the estate sale. Sales were made to James, John, Micajah, Jephtha, Joseph, and William (one Negro fellow named Brista) Pickett, among others. [5] [6] [7]

1807 James Picket gave his account of the sale of personal estate of Reuben Pickett with balance $1058.63. Payments of $211.72 were made to each of William Pickett, Micajah Pickett, James Pickett, John Pickett, and Chas Pickett. [8] [9] Note that these are the six sons of Micajah and Kisannah Pickett who were named in Micajah's will with a deed of gift.

Repeated court cases were brought against Reuben Pickett, some involving Jeptha Pickett and Shepherd Pickett, continuing after the death of Reuben in 1807. Some of these records are likely for a different person named Reuben Pickett.

1803 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett and Susan Starke in the Fairfield court of general sessions. [10] [11]

1806 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett, Jeptha Pickett, and others in the Fairfield court of general sessions for Riot and a case against Reuben Pickett for assault on April 14. [12] [13]

1806 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett in the Fairfield court of general sessions on Tuesday 18th November, 1806. [14]

1806 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett and Shepherd Pickett in the Fairfield court of general sessions for riot on Tuesday 18th November, 1806. They plead guilty. [15]

1807 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett in the Fairfield court of general sessions on April 15, 1807. [16]

1808 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett in the Fairfield court of general sessions on April 19, 1808 for assault. He was found guilty. Sheperd Pickett was a witness in his defense. [17]

1808 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett in the Fairfield court of general sessions on April 22, 1808 for assault. He was to be jailed for 20 days or be fined for $20. [18]

1813 The state brought a case against Shepherd Pickett in the Fairfield court of general sessions on April 13 for assault and battery. [19]

1817 The state brought a case against Reuben Pickett and others in the Fairfield court of general sessions on April 17 for assault. Guilty. [20]

1818 Reuben Pickett was listed for jury duty in the Fairfield court of general sessions on April 13. [21]

1818 Reuben Pickett was listed for jury duty in the Fairfield court of general sessions on July 13. [22]
