Notes for Christian Kauffman

1768 Michael Shank of Lancaster Twp and Andrew Koffman Jr of Manner [sic] Twp, Lancaster County, the executors of the last will and testament of Andrew Kauffman, deceased, deeded 100 acres from the estate to the eldest son Christian for the cost of 600 pounds. The deed was dated October 31. [1]

1768 Christian Kaufman and his wife Rachel of Manor Twp, Lancaster County granted land to Michael Shank, Andrew Kauffman, Nicholas Pecker, and Abraham Hare because of several debts he had to them amounting to more than 900 pounds. The deed was dated on October 31. The 170 acres of land in Manor Twp was adjacent to land of Andrew Kaufman and Stephen Hornberger. "It being the same piece of land which Michael Shak [sic] and Andrew Kauffman by their indenture of conveyance bearing even date, herewith did confirm to the said Christian Kauffman". [2]

1772 Christian Kauffman of Manor Twp sold land to Stephen Hornberger, of Hempfield Twp, on January 8. The land of about 30 acres was in Hempfield Twp was next to that of Michael Witmer, Jacob Seagrist, Benjamin Ashelman, Stephen Hornberger, and the road to Wright's Ferry. [3]

1798 Christian Kauffman of Manor Twp dated his will on February 14, 1798 with probate on March 1, 1798. The estate was to be divided into six equal shares for wife Ann Kaufman and five children: Magdalena wife of Henry Sherer, Catherine, John Kaufman, Ann, and Rudy Kaufman. The youngest child was a minor. Executors Henry Sherer and Joseph Carly. [4]

1798 Henry Sharer and Joseph Carly, the executors of the will, dated February 14, 1798, of Christian Kauffman, late of Manor Twp, sold land, on June 1, from Christian's estate to David Brubaker Jr. Henry Sharer was son-in-law and Joseph Carly was brother-in-law to Christian, deceased. The land was next to land of Herman Witmer, other land of Christian Kauffman deceased, John Miller deceased, Stephen Hornberger, and the Wrights Ferry Road. The tract had been aquired through several purchases. One part was land that Michael Shenk and Andrew Kauffman, executors of the will of Andrew Kauffman, had sold to Christian on October 1, 1768. [5] One 13 acre part was sold by Jacob Kauffman and Magdalen his wife sold to Christian on June 14, 1791. Another 4 acre part was sold to Christian by Andrew Kauffman and his wife Freny on June 17, 1774. [6]
