1843 Mr. John Brenizer of Adams County and Miss Catharine Mummert of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania were married on August 22, by Rev. Henry Aurand. [1] [2] [3] [4]

1850 John L. Brenizer (age 26), millwright, and wife Catharine (age 30) lived in Hampton, Reading Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania with child Charles M.B. (age 4). [5] [6]

1853 John and Catherine Breneise, perhaps this couple, had son John Milton born August 22, 1853 and baptized on December 25, 1853 at the Emanuel Reformed Church, Abbottstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania. [7]

1854 John L. Brenizer made an accounting of Mother Mary's estate. [8] [9]

1854 John L Brenizer served on the grand jury in Adams County. [10] [11]

1855 Catharine Brenizer, spouse of John Brenizer, died on April 27, at Hampton, Reading Township, Pennsylvania. Catharine was buried at the Hampton Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery. Three infant sons were also buried there. [12] [13] She died at about age 30. [14]

1856 John L Brenizer and Beattrice Picking were married on February 28, 1856, recorded in the Personal Register of the Rev. Constantine J Deininger, Lutheran church, York County, Pennsylvania. [15]

1856 J.L. Brenizer ran for the office of School Director for Hampton District. [16]

1859 John L Brenizer and Jacob Wolfe were elected school supervisors for Hampton District, Reading Twp, Cumberland County, on March 28. [17]

1860 John Brenizer (age 37) and Beatrice (age 23) lived in Hampton, Reading Twp, Adams Pennsylvania with children Charles (age 13), Milton (age 7), and Algernon (age 2). John was a millright with real estate valued at $1100 and personal estate valued at $500. Living nearby were Thad? Chronister (age 22) and Levi Chronister (age 28). [18]

1864 John Leonard was among those drafted, on July 20, in Reading Twp to make up for prior deficiencies in the quota. Such persons could purchase exemption by paying $300. [19]

1865 John Leonard was among those drafted, on March 27, for Reading Twp to make up for prior deficiencies in the quota. [20]

1868 John L Brenizer was listed as a Millwright in Hampton, Pennsylvania, in Reilly´s Pennsylvania State Business Directory, 1868-69. [21]

1870 John Brenizer (age 47) and Beatrice (age 32) lived in York Springs, Reading Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania, with children Charlie (a millwright, age 23), John (appointment to millwright, age 15), Algernon (age 13), and Mary (age 6). John was a millright with real estate valued at $3000 and personal estate valued at $300. [22]

1872 John Brenizer, Millwright, was listed as an agent for Burnham improved turbine water wheel and Russell's smut machine in the business directory for Adams County, Pennsylvania and the County Atlas. 1874 John L Brenizer published an advertisement on August 18, in The Sentinel Newspaper, selling his three beautiful lots in Hampton. [Photocopy, Notice of Leonard Brenizer's sale of PA land, 1874.]

1877 John Leonard Brenizer moved to Kansas.

1878 John Leonard Brenizer was likely referred to, in letters written from Kansas by nephew Willis Chronister [24], as "old John".

1880 John Brenizer (age 56) and Beatrice Brenizer (age 41) lived in Abilene, Dickinson County, Kansas with son Milton (age 33) and daughter Mary (age 15). [25]

1880 John Leonard Brenizer built a historic home in Abilene Kansas. "1303 N. Buckeye Built ca. 1880 by John Brenizer, a millwright who came to the area from Ohio with the "Buckeye" Colony. The small farm house has been enlarged several times, changing the original style." [26]

1885 John L Brenizer, millwright, (age 60) and Beatrice Brenizer (age 44) lived in Prarie Dog, Decatur County, Kansas with their daughter Mary Wilson's family. [27]

1885 An atlas of Dickinson County, Kansas, by John Fuller, showed John L. Brenizer with 240 acres in section 35 of Cheever Twp. Next door was David Wesley Howard with 160 acres and with more land in section 34. Just south in Buckeye Twp were the lands of John's son CM Brenizer and further south was the land of John S. Chronister, who moved to Kansas with Ira Wolfe and DW Howard. [28]

1886 John Milton Brenizer, son of John L. Brenizer and Catherine Mummert, married Jessie Phillips Walker on November 3, in Vermont. John was age 32. [29]

1886 J.L. Brenizer of Abilene won a prize at the Barnes and Northcraft grand Christmas drawing on December 30. [30]

1887 Mr and Mrs John L Brenizer attended the silver wedding anniversary of Reverend T.F. Stauffer in Abilene, as described in a newspaper report of March 31. [31]

1887 J.L Brenizer was appointed, on September 22, to a committee by the board of trade (Abilene) to solicit capital stock to assure availability of cheap natural gas. [32]

1887 The Christmas service of the Grace Reformed church in Abilene included presentation of a gold-headed cane to Elder Brenizer. "The presentation was made by Reverend Weber, of Wichita, who knew precisely how to cane J.L. so as to make him feel the effects of a grateful people. The elder promised to cane each person individually at an opportune time." A wonderful time was had by all. [33]

1888 J.L. Brenizer served on a jury for the Reynolds murder trial in Abilene. Reynolds was found guilty of murder in the second degree. [34]

1895 John L Brenizer (age 60), millwright, and Beatrice Brenizer (age 44) lived in Prarie Dog, Decatur County, Kansas with Homer Wilson (age 22), printer, Mary Wilson (age 19), and baby Wilson. D. W. Howard (age 48 and family were listed adjacent. [35]

1897 The Emporia Daily Gazette (bottom of column 3) reported "Prominent Farmer Drops Dead - Abilene Kan., Nov 2. - John L. Brenizer, one of the city's oldest residents, and a prominent farmer of the county, fell dead on the street this afternoon of heart disease.". The Sentinel newspaper of Hampton, Pennsylvania reported his death on November 1 in Abilene. 1897 There is a grave marker for John Leonard Brenizer (1823-1897) at Abilene cemetery, Dickinson County, Kansas. [38]

1900 Beatrice Brenizer (born Mar 1838), mother-in-law, lived with daughter Mary B Wilson (born Dec 1864) in Abilene, Dickinson, Kansas. John Brenizer, son of John Leonard and his second wife was listed nearby. [39]

1900 Beatrice Picking Brenizer died and was buried at the Abilene Cemetery, Abilene, Dickinson County, Kansas. [40] [41] [42]:

Born in Dover, Pennsylvania in 1838 and in 1856 was married to John L.Brenizer,who preceded her to the better land three years ago. They came to this county in 1877 and here had the deceased since resided. Since her husband's death, her home had been with her daughter, Mrs. Homer Wilson and there she passed peacefully into rest on the evening of Sept.1. From girlhood she had been a devoted Christian and the principals of her faith were reflected in her daily life. When the end drew near she met it as one entering into glory and left behind her the memory of a blessed life, in which her home and children were first, which abound in good deeds and which left the world better and brighter and taught a sweet lesson of faith and trust.

1861/62 John Brenizer, age 40 was registered with the draft in Harrisburg. He was a tailor on State Street. His service enrollment was 1861, Corpl, Regiment 53, Company G. [44]
