1374 James Andreu, draper, in his will dated London, Wednesday the Vigil of S. Matthew, Apostle [21 Sept.], A.D. 1374, stated, "John Vyne, draper, his servant, to enjoy his leasehold tenements, held under the Priory of Dertford, in Cordewanerstrete in the parishes of S. Mary le Bow and S. Mary de Aldermarichirche." [1]

1376 John Vyne, elected as one of six drapers to serve on a Council of the City of London, took the oath of this office on August 9. [2]

1377 On October 31, John Vyne, Andrew Vyne, and Robert Risby citizens and drapers of London made an agreement with Thomas de Cornerth, Robert Swynborne knights and John Rokewood of Suffolk. [3]

John Wyne, Andrew Vyne and Robert Risby citizens and drapers of London to Thomas de Cornerth, Robert Swynbourne knights and John Rokewode of Suffolk. Bond in 420l. payable at Martinmas. Dated 31 October 1 Richard II.
Memorandum of acknowledgment, 6 November.
Indenture of defeasance of the foregoing bond, upon condition that John Wyne, Andrew Wyne and Robert Risby or some one in their name pay to Thomas Cornerth, Robert Swynbourne knights and John Rokwode or to their attorney 210l. in the church of St. Paul London, namely 10l. at Christmas next and the residue by three half yearly instalments. Dated London, 1 November 1 Richard II.

1377/78 John Vyne and Joyce Cornerth were married by January 25. [4]

John Rokwode, Thomas Rokwode, William Wodham, William Asshby clerk, Thomas Lude, Robert Rysby, Andrew Vyne and John Forster to John Vyne citizen and draper of London and Joyce his wife and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of Thomas Cornerth knight of Suffolk. Gift of the reversion of the manors called Cornerthalle in Bures co. Suffolk and Nortonhalle in Fynchyngfeld co. Essex, now held for life by the said Thomas Cornerth by demise of the grantors. Dated Monday the Conversion of St. Paul 1 Richard II.

Indenture of attornment by Thomas de Cornerth knight to John Vyne citizen and draper of London and Joyce his wife by payment of 1d., reciting a demise to the said Thomas for life of the manors of Cornerthalle and Nortonhalle (as above) with licence to make waste therein, made by John Rokwode, Thomas Rokwode, William Wodham, William Asshby clerk, Thomas Lude, Robert Risby, Andrew Vyne and John Forster, and the foregoing grant of the reversion of those manors to the said John Vyne and Joyce. Dated London, Tuesday the feast of the Purification 1 Richard 11.

1377/78 John Vyne was sworn as alderman of London from Queen Hithe on March 12. [5]

1378/79 On January 24, the Mayor, Altermen, and Commonality of the city of London borrowed from certain good folk of the City the sums underwritten ... John Vyne, £4. [6]

1379 Letters Patent appointing John Vyne and others in London to be collectors of a graduated poll-tax recently enacted by parliament were witnessed by the King on May 27. [7]

1379 On September 21, John Vyne and others were elected auditors of the Chamberlain's account in London. [8]

1379/80 In March, John Vyne was elected and accepted as Alderman from the Cordewanerstret Ward by John Hadlee, the Mayor, and the Aldermen in default of election by men of the Ward. [9]

1380 On September 21, John Vyne was among the Aldermen of London who participated in the election of the sheriff. [10]

1380 John Vyne was among the Aldermen of London who participated in the election of the mayor on October 13. [11]

1381/82 On February 13, John Vyne was among the Aldermen of London who participated in a decision to withdraw a judgment against a set of men. [12]

1382 On September 21, John Vyne and others, Commoners [not Aldermen] were elected auditors of the accounts of the Chamberlain and Wardens of London Bridge. [13]

1383 Letters Patent appointing John Vyne, "draper," and others commissioners to levy in the City half a tenth granted to the King were witnessed by the King on November 27. [14] This is the last mention of John Vyne in this London Letter Book.

1384 John Vyne died by September 3. [15]

Sept. 3. Westminster. To the collectors of customs in the port of Sandewich. Order, upon petition of Richard Brendwode and relying on the witness of the collectors of customs in the port of London, to deliver to him 100s., and discharge him of a second payment of custom upon divers cloths; as his petition has shewn that he and John Vyne deceased laded the same in a ship in the port of London, and took them to Calais to make their advantage thereof, and after brought them again from Calais to Sandewich, and thence to London, and that the collectors at Sandewich are demanding of him a second payment of custom thereupon, and have unlawfully taken of him 100s., in name of security, although he and the deceased paid custom in the port of London, as by the collectors there is witnessed.

1386 "John Vyne, formerly citizen and draper of London, now deceased [John Forster and Robert Risby, executors]" was the creditor in a debt of £600, dating from 1381, owed by Andrew Vyne, citizen and draper of London. [16]
