1821 Jacob Wise and Margaret Moore, perhaps this couple, were married on November 8, in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [2] [3]

1825 Jacob Wise moved to Ohio. [4]

1840 Jacob Wise (age 30-40) lived in Madison Twp, Richland County, Ohio with wife and 7 children. [5]

1850 Jacob Wise, horse jockey (age 49) lived in Madison Twp, Richland County, Ohio with Margaret (age 50), Catharine (age 25), Robert L (age 16), Charles (age 15) and Margaret (age 11). [6]

1860 Jacob Wise (age 57, carpenter) lived in Mansfield Twp, Richland County, Ohio, in a household with George Wise (age 31, born in Ohio), Ellen Wise (age 25), Alice Wise (age 5), Chas Wise (age 3), and Robert Wise (age 36?). [7]

1867 Jacob Wise died on July 23, 1867 at Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio, age: 65 . Birth Date: 1802. Birthplace: Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Occupation: Shoemaker. Marital Status: Widowed. [8]

A biosketch of son George C Wise reported [9]:

grocer; a descendant of a Pennsylvania family; his grandfather, Col. John Wise, having command of a Pennsylvania militia regiment in the war of 1812. Jacob Wise, the father of the subject of this sketch, was born in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Penn., in the year 1802; he emigrated to Ohio, and settled in Mansfield in 1825. George C. Wise, the third child, was born on the 23d of October, 1828, on the northwest corner of Third and East Diamond streets, Mansfield; at the age of 18 years, he commenced the trade of cabinet-making, which he continued four years; on the 8th of August, 1853, he began in the store of Mr. E. Clapp as clerk, on the corner of Fourth and Main streets, and was taken into the firm as a partner, under the name of E. Clapp & Co., in 1865; in the year 1866, the firm of Clapp & Wise removed to the Miller Block, where they continued the business until Feb. 6, 1873, when Mr. Wise purchased the interest of E. Clapp, since which time he has carried on the business alone. George C. Wise was married in Mansfield Feb. 1, 1854, to Ellen M. Clapp, a daughter of his employer, to whom have been born six children, four of whom are living: Alice C, now Mrs. Frank D. Gadsby; Charles E., at present in business with his father; Lillie E. and Nettie B. George C. Wise holds the position of one of the representative business men of Mansfield.

Research Notes:

1848 Jacob Wise of Richland County, Ohio gave power of attorney to Mr. Goodyear to represent his interests in the estate of Leonard Wise, of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Could it be this Jacob?
