Notes for Anthony Woodward and Hannah Foulke

1668 Hannah, daughter of Thomas Fouke, was born on 13 May (month 3). Her birth was registered at the North Wingfield parish and the Chesterfield [Quaker] Meeting in Derbyshire, England. [1] [2]

1657 Anthony Woodward, son of Anthony, was born on December 12 in Ashford-in-the-water, Derbyshire, England. [3]

1665 A justice of the peace took the names of Quakers at a meeting at North Wingfield, Derbyshire, England, on September 3, and ordered them to appear at Chesterfield on 14 September. Thirteen of them including Anthony Woodward, perhaps the father of this Anthony, were kept at the house of corrections for about three weeks. [4]

1670 Fines were levied on several people including £21 for Anthony Woodward, perhaps the father of this Anthony. They were at a Quaker meeting held at the house of Anthony Bunting, in Derbyshire, England. [5]

1679/80 Anthony Woodward and Dorothy Taylor were married on February 19, in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. Anthony and Anne Woodward were the first witnesses listed. [6]

1687 Anthony Woodward and Hannah Folkes declared, on 6 of month 11, 1686/87, at the Chesterfield monthly meeting [New Jersey], their intentions to marry. [7] [8]

Anthony Woodward late of Long Island and Hannah Folkes, declared their intentions of marriage to the Man's and women's meetings her parents being present gave their consent and he produced a certificate from friends in Long Island of his clearness from all others and of his faithfull walking.

1686/87 Hannah Folkes [Foulke] and Anthony Woodward made their second declaration, on February 3, of intention to marry, as recorded in the Chesterfield, Burlington County, New Jersey monthly meeting minutes. Anthony Woodward was found clear, but concerns were raised about Hannah and John Hooten, but they got married, despite the desire of the meeting for them to wait one month longer. [9] [10] [11] [12]

1687 Anthony Woodward, late of Long Island, now of West New Jersey, and Hannah Folkes, daughter of Thomas, were married on 14 of month 12 (February), 1686/87. [13]. Witnesses: Thomas, Thomas, Jr., Folkes, Samuel Bunting, John Bunting, Wm. Wood, William Biddle, John Curtis, Joseph Hutchinson and others. [14] Anthony Woodward and Hannah Foulkes may have known each other in England and she may have had a prior interest in John Hooten, which affected her clearness to marry. [15]

1686 Thomas Foulke Sr sold 200 acres to Anthony Woodward, both yeomen of Chesterfield. [16]

1688 Mary, daughter of Anthony and Hannah Woodward, was born on 20 of month 1. She died on 13 of month 7, 1688. [17] [18]

1689 Thomas Folke senior sold land to Anthony Woodward, both of Chesterfield, yeomen, on January 22, 1688/89. The deed was for 200 acres near there, bo't of Mahlon Stacy, then of Handsworth, York, England, Jan. 28-29, 1677/78. [19]

1692 Anthony Woodward signed a letter with other Quakers at Burlington encouraging George Keith and Thomas Lloyd to resolve their differences. [20]

1695 Anthony Woodward was listed among the residents of Nottingham Twp, Burlington County, dated 1 month [March], day 25. [21] [22]

1696 Anthony Woodward was appointed constable of Nottingham Twp. [23]

1698 Anthony Woodward purchased the Dockwra estate of William Dockwra. [24]

1702 Richard French and Mary King were married on January 13, 1701/02, at the house of Harmenus King, Nottingham Twp, Burlington County, New Jersey. Witnessed by Anthony and Hannah Woodward and others. [25]

1702 A debt was paid to Anthony Wotherd, perhaps this one, from the estate of Francis Parot. [26]

1706 John King and Elizabeth Woodward were married on November 13, at Chesterfield. Witnessed by Anthony and Hannah Woodward and others. [27]

1709 Anthony Woodward was commissioned as justice of the peace in Monmouth County, New Jersey, on January 23. [28]

1704 William Murfin and Sarah Bunting were married on August 8, at Chesterfield. Witnessed by Anthony and Elizabeth Woodward and others. [29].

1706 John King and Elizabeth Woodward were married on November 13, at Chesterfield. Witnessed by Anthony and Hannah Woodward and others. [30]

1718 The will of Anthony Woodward of Freehold, Monmouth County was dated December 29, 1718 and was proved on March 26 1730. Wife Hannah sole executrix. Children Thomas, John, Anthony, William, Joseph, Samuel, Elizabeth King, Mary Maltsby, Clemens, and Sarah. Real and personal estate. Witnesses Thomas Wood, Elizabeth Daws, Joseph Reckless. [31]

1730 The inventory of the personal estate of Anthony Woodward, made on March 23, 1729/30 by Benjamin Doughty, Joseph Reckless, John Bunting, and Edm'd Beakes, was valued at £531.10.6 including 6 silver spoons. [32]

1756 The will of Hannah Woodward of Upper Freehold, Monmouth County, widow of Anthony, was dated August 21, 1756 and was proved on September 30, 1760. The will named sons Thomas, Anthony, and Joseph, who has wife Hannah, and children Anne Reckless, Joseph and Appollo. Legacy for use of Poor Women, and Friends of Chesterfield Monthly Meeting. Real and personal estate, including deceased husband's estate in Great Britain and 5 negroes. Executors William Lawrie, Joseph Fowler, and Rebekah Terry. [33]

1756 The inventory, dated September 29, was valued at 235.17.6 pounds including bonds, 110 pounds; 2 negro boys and 3 negro girls, 110 pounds; made by William Lawrie and Joseph Fowler. [34]
