1917 Edward Gallup Miles applied for a U.S. passport in Asheville, North Carolina, on May 17 to travel to France with the American Ambulance Service. He was age 19, born March 28, 1898, in Chicago, Illinois, son of Herbert D. Miles, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Edward was 6 feet, 2 1/2 inches and had light hair and blue eyes. The passport was issued on May 19. [1] [2]

1923 Edward G. Miles and Elise S. Parkinson were married on October 16 in Volusia County, Florida. [3] [4] [5] [6] Edward was age 25. [7] Elise was age 19 and had the permission of her mother, Mrs. JB Parkinson. [8]

1924 Edward Gallup Miles applied for a U.S. passport for himself and his wife on October 6. He was married on October 16, 1923, to Elise P. Miles who was born on August 22, 1904, in Daytona, Florida. He planned to visit Italy, France, Belgium, Luxenberg, Germany, British Isles and Switzerland for pleasure, leaving New York CIty in November 1924. The passport was issued on October 22. An affadavit in the passport application, signed by Elise's mother Annie S. Parkinson, attests to the date and place of birth of Elise Sanborn Parkinson. [9] [10]

1925 Edward and Elise Miles were passengers on the ship "Leviathian", returning to New York, from Cherbourg, France. [11]

1930 Edward G Miles (age 32) and Elsie P Miles (age 25) lived in Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. [12]

1940 In the U.S. Census, Edward G., his wife Elise, and daughter Jeanne lived at 234 Vernon, New Trier, Illinois. Edward (age 42) was born in Illinois and his occupation was Stocks & Bonds Advisor. Elise (age 35) was born in Florida, and Jeanne (age 7) was born in North Carolina. The family lived in Evanston, Illinois, in 1935. [13] [14]

1954 Edward Miles died on March 21 in Orange County, Florida. [15] He was buried at Pinewood Cemetery, Daytona Beach. Volusia County, Florida with inscription, "Edward G. Miles March 28, 1898 March 21 1954." [16] His death was listed in the AFS Newsletter, September 1955, which states, "We regretfully announce the deaths of the following members and friends of the American Field Service: Edward Gallup Miles (SSU 66), 21 March 1955" [17]

1973 Elise Parkingson Miles died in August in Volusia County, Florida and was buried at Pinewood Cemetery, Daytona Beach. Volusia County, Florida, with inscription, "In Loving Memory Elise Parkinson Miles." [18]
