Research Notes:

There could be more than one person named John Pickett named in the documents cited below. Several men named John Pickett lived in Fairfield District at the same time and some documents are ambiguous about which John Pickett is named in the document. We welcome help in sorting out these documents to attribute each document to the correct John Pickett.

John Pickett (1782-1851), son of Micajah and Kisannah, married two Bouleware sisters. [1] Perhaps known as John B Pickett.

John Pickett (1780-1822) spouse of Charlotte Belton. Perhaps a son of James and Susanna Pickett. [2] [3] Perhaps known as John Pickett Junior.

This John Pickett (c 1750-1821) spouse of Molley Pickett and father of Susanna Cason. Perhaps a son of Micajah Pickett and Winifred Beasley. Perhaps known as John Pickett Senior. [4] [5]

1764 John Pickett, perhaps this one, witnessed a deed between Charles Higdon, of Anson County, North Carolina, and Elizabeth Talent. Land was on Buffelow Creek nigh Mount Pleasant. Deed dated October 23. [6]

1770 John Pickett was granted 200 acres of land in Craven County on Fair Forrest a branch of Lygar River adjacent to lands of Edward Musgrove and Charles Jones. [7]

1787 John Pickett was named as commissioner of Caroline County, Virginia (March) and received pay (September). [8]

1799 In the December court of Caroline County, Virginia, Molly Murrah, wife of John Pickett, was named in the will of Lodowick Murrah. [9]

1800 John Pickett lived in Fairfield County, South Carolina in a household with free white males: 1 (16 thru 25); and free white females: 1 (Under 10) and 1 (16 thru 25); and 4 enslaved persons. [10]

1800 John Pickett made the inventory and appraisement of the estate of Henry Shrock. Dated July 29 in Fairfield, South Carolina. [11]

1810 John Pickett Senior lived in Fairfield County, South Carolina in a household with males: 1 (16 thru 25) and 1 (45 and over); and females: 1 (26 thru 44). [12] Micajah Pickett (perhaps John's nephew, son of John's brother Micajah) was listed adjacent on the prior page of the census.

1815 John Pickett Sr, plat for 9.9 acres near Wateree River, Dutchman's Creek, Fairfield District, surveyed by John Woodward. Dated December 21. [13]

1820 John Pickett, perhaps this one, was an executor for the will of Robert Henson of Fairfield District, Fairfield County, which was dated October 30 and was proved on November 20. The will named: Wife Rebekah; Children: Joseph, Elijah, Mary, Catherine, Huldy, Fanny, Eliza, and Mattie (under age). Executors: Austin F Peay, Thomas McCullah, and John Pickett. Witnesses John Templeton, John Henson Jr, Isaac Graham. [14]

1820 John Pickett lived in Fairfield County, South Carolina in a household with free white males: 1 (16 thru 25) and 2 (26 thru 44); and free white females: 1 (10 thru 15) and 1 (26 thru 44); and 23 slaves. [15] Clement Aldredge was listed nearby (see 1822 will). John Henson Jr and Rebecca Henson had separate listings nearby. John Templeton was listed nearby (see 1822 will of John Pickett)

1821 John Picket's will was proved in Chester; Edgefield; Fairfield; Greenville; York, South Carolina on January 2. The will named Susanna Cason (Daughter), James Caron (Son-in-law), and Molley Pickett (Wife). Executors and friends were John Ellison Esquire, Thomas Boulware, Abraham Ferguson, and Jeptha Pickett. The will named enslaved persons Jenney, Luck, Phillis, Claiborne, Gilbert, and Chany. [16] [17] [18] [19] [20]
The will named wife Molly Pickett, daughter Susanna Cason and her husband James. Land, 500 acres, on the head waters of Dutchmans Creek and Wateree Creek bounded by land of John Ellison, William Goins, John Pickett Jr, and John W Starke. Executors: John Ellison, Thomas Boulware, Abraham Ferguson, and Jeptha Pickett. Witnesses: P Edward Pearson, Charles Pickett, and William Moore. [21]
