A newspaper clipping reports [22]:

Mrs. Elizabeth Ruhl was born in Baltimore county, Maryland, in December 1781, so that in December next year she will by ninety-five years of age.

Mrs. Ruhl is the mother of seventeen children, fourteen sons and three daughters. Her husband's name was George Ruhl, who has now been dead thirty-four years. She is the grand mother of eighty-two, and the great grandmother of one hundred and one children, but the prospects are fair and the stock is good to insure that title if she lives a few years longer.

She emigrated from her native home of York county, Pa., and from thence to Richland county, Ohio, where she resided for fifty three years, and is now living with her son William Ruhl Esq., in Hickory township, this county, with whom she has resided since the death of her husband. She is a member of the Lutheran Church and speaks and reads the German language. She was blind for six years, but her second sight has come to her and she now can see. She is in the enjoyment of good health, and in good possession of her faculties, her frugal mode of life would be a fine model for the rising population to pattern after.

An obituary for Elizabeth Prosser Ruhl reports [23]:

The history of a lady, Mrs. Elizabeth Ruhl, residing south of Maryville two miles, is quite interesting. She has attained the age of 98 years and 6 months. She was born and raised in Baltimore County, Maryland. She and her husband emigrated to Ohio in 1814, remaining there until the year 1868, when she and one of her sons came to Missouri. This old lady had raised 17 children, 3 daughters and 14 sons; she has 87 grandchildren and 121 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren. She lived on one farm in Ohio more than 53 years. Seven of her sons mowed together in the same field. She has been a member of the Lutheran church for more than 75 years. She has been a widow for 38 years and has been blind for over 20 years. She is drawing a pension for the service of her husband in the War of 1812. Her father, Mr. Prosser, drove a continental wagon in the Revolutionary War. Until within the last two or three weeks Mrs. Ruhl has been able to walk from one room to another, but for several days she has been confined to her bed though she does not seem to be suffering much pain. (undated newspaper clipping in scrapbook owned by Kenneth Dudly, Bellville, Ohio). The son with whom she moved to Missouri was William Ruhl.
