1830 Jonathan Marshall Meakins was born on June 12 to parents Charles William and Mary Ann Meakins and bapitzed on June 27 at St Pancras, Middlesex, England.The family lived on Drummond Street, Middlesex, England, and Charles was a cabinet maker. [1]

1856 Jonathan Marshall Meakins and Elizabeth Johnson were married on March 24 by the Rev. Mr. Hebden at the Church of the Ascension in Hamilton, Ontario.

1871 In the Canadian census, Jonathan Meakins, age 40, born in England, brushmaker, religion Church of England, Anglican lived in St. Patrick's Ward (E), Hamilton (024), Ontario. (Division 2, Page 25, Microfilm reel C-9927) [2]

1875 On May 12, Jonathan Meakins was recognized for his service to the Masons in Hamilton. [3]

On the 12th May last, I had the pleasure on behalf of the brethren of Hamilton, of presenting handsome testimonials to V. W. Bro. Richard Brierley and Bro. J. M. Meakins upon whom, as members of the Furnishing Committee, had devolved the greater part of the labor in preparing the various rooms in the new Masonic Hall, for the use of the Lodges and other Masonic Bodies.
V. W. Bro. Brierley, was presented with a very fine gold hunting lever watch, with a heavy gold chain and keystone appended, and Bro. Meakins was the recipient of a handsome French gilt sixteen day clock, with stand and shade.

1881 In the Canadian census, Ward 1, Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Jonathan Meakins, age 50, occupation brush manufacturer, lived with Elizabeth, age 47, Joseph, age 15, Henry, age 12, and Lillian, age 9. Jonathan was born in England; Elizabeth and the children were born in Ontario. The family religion was Church of England. Charlotte Green, age 15, born in Ontario, was also in the household. [4]

1881 On May 24, Jonathan Meakins participated in the laying of the cornerstone for a church in Rockwood, Wellington County, Ontario. "At an Especial Communication of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Canada, held at the village of Rockwood, in the County of Wellington, on Tuesday, the 24th of May, A.D.1881, A.L. 5881. Present: R.W. J. M. Meakins, Acting Grand Master ... This Corner Stone of St. John's Church, Rockwood, was laid by R.W. Bro. J. Marshal Meakins, D.D.G.M., on behalf of the M.W. the Grand Master, assisted by the Grand Lodge Officers and a large concourse of Brethern, with the usual ceremonies and usages of the Order. Which may the G.A.O.T.U. ever protect and prosper." [5]

1881 Grand Lodge of Canada Proceedings: At the Twenty-sixth Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Canada, held in the Grand Opera House, in the City of Hamilton, commencing on Wednesday, the 13th day of July, A.D. 1881, A.L. 5881. Present: ...R.W. Bro. J.M. Meakins, Hamilton District Deputy Grand Master. [6]

1882 Jonathan Marshall Meakins died on May 5 in Hamilton, Ontario. The cause of death was paralysis, duration 2 months. He was age 52, born in England, a merchant, and his religion was Episcopal. [7] His death was reported in the proceedings of the Masons, "on the 5th May ... the death at his residence, in Hamilton, of R.W. Bro. Meakins P.D.D.G.M. ... His sickness was sharp and short, and his genial face we shall miss at our meetings" and "in May, our R. W. Bro. J. M. Meakins was called to his rest and the brethren of every rite in this District deeply mourn for one whose time, means, energy and experience were always at the disposal of the brethren for the advantage of the Craft." 1885 Elizabeth Johnson Meakins died on December 27 in Hamilton, Ontario. The cause of death was meningitis, duration 2 months. She was age 52 and born in Canada. [10]
