Kincaid, Kans. April 13-1954. Dear Ranald: Was mighty surprised to hear from you. Wallace came in and brought your letter he got out of the office Sun. Morn. And forgot to give it to me. I am sorry you have been sick. Take care of yourself. You only have one life to live. Wallace's Uncle has been in the hospital over 10 weeks. He is in Kansas City now. The folks went up to see him Sun. and left the baby with me. She was fretful. You know Walace lost his mother this winter. This is her brother. He will be 78 Sat. He is a vetirnerian [sic], and a batchlor. It is tiresome for me to care for the baby. I am glad your family are doing so nicely. I don't consider myself a pioneer. My Grandparents might be. I never went to a country school in my life. I was born and raised in Union City, Ohio. Graduated from U.C.O.H.S. in 1898. Taught my first school in 1900 out in Washington Township. It was the Township school just east of Rose Hill. Two mo. My Grandfather Page was the pioneer teacher. He was a lifetime farmer + teacher. He would be your Great Grandfather. My Mother taught three short terms. Her folks moved to Union City before the Civil War. She and my father were married at the close of the war in U.C. and always lived there with the exception of one year. They had 10 children. I was the 6th. Your mother was the 10th. I began teaching in U.C. I think 1903. Taught at Arcanum 1902 + 3. The year McKinley was killed. Came to Kansas in 1909, so here I remain. Pa helped to build U.C. You see Ohio was on the map about 100 yr. Before I began teaching. Well the churches are having pre-Easter services. Prayer meetings at the homes. I got to go yesterday. The M.E. Preacher picked me up. I am not able to walk far. We had a nice rain Sat. night which we needed badly. Elizabeth, two older girls go to school in the country I am pretty good this Spring except my eyes are giving me trouble. I hope you regain all you lost and remember the world wasn't made in a day. Go slow. Love + best wishes to all of you. Aunt Kate
