1604 Robert Wright, son of Peter Wright (of Knedlington), was baptized on October 2, at Howden parish, Yorkshire, England. [2] [3] [4]

1615 Alice daughter to Hugh Lawtie of asselbie was baptized on April 29, at Howden parish, Yorkshire. [5]

Robert Wright was a butcher in Howden, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.

1629 Robert Wright of Howden and Alice Lawtie were married on August 1. [6]

1630 Son Thomas was baptized on September 26. "Thoms. s. to Robert Wright of Howden [was baptized] xxvj" of September, 1630. [7] [8]

1632 Daughter Elizabeth was baptized on March 15, 1631/32. "Eliz: d. to Robert Wright of howden xv" March 1631/32. [9] [10]

1633 Daughter Elizabeth died and was buried at Howden on July 1. "Eliz. d. to Robert Wright of howden". [11]

1633 Son John was baptized on October 4. "John s. to Robert Wright of howden iiij" October 1633. [12] [13]

1635 Daughter Alice was baptized on November 30. "Alice d. to Robert Wright of Howden xxx" November 1635. [14] [15]

1635 "Copy feoffment of Robert Wright and William Wright to George Blansherd, of a messuage and lands. Location: Staddlethorpe and Blacktoft, Yorkshire" [about 10 km east of Howden]. [16]

1638 Daughter Margarett was baptized on January 7, 1637/38. "Margarett d. to Robert Wright of Howden vij" January 1637. [17] [18]

1639 "Margarett d. to Robt. Wright of howden" was buried on May 22. [19]

1640 Son John was baptized on May 25. "John s. to Robert Wright of howden xxv" May, 1640. [20] [21]

1640 Benjamin, son of Alice Wright of Howden was buried at Howden on September 28. [22]

1640 "Alice Wright of howden" was buried on November 29. [23]

1642 Son David was baptized on September 27. "David s. to Robert Wright of howden xxvij" September, 1642. [24] [25]

1642 "david s. to Robert Wright of howden" was buried on October 4. [26]

1643 Daughter Elizabeth was baptized on October 16. "Eliz; d. to Robt Wright of howden xvj" October, 1643. [27] [28]

1648 "Bargain and sale for £7 relating to land in Howden. Parties: 1) Robert Athrop of Cotnes, gentleman 2) Robert Wright of Howden, butcher Property: a three rood land in Bownhill Furlong in Flatfield in Howden Witnesses: Edward Durham, Anthonie Biggen, Myles Nailor and Mathew Haward". Dated on March 24. [29]

1648 Daughter Jane was baptized on May 17. "Jane d. to Robt Wright of Howden 17" May, 1648. [30] [31]

1649 Robert Wright was a witness on June 14. "Feoffment relating to Beverley DDBC/15/14" Contents: Parties: 1) Balthazer Settle sadler 2) Thomas Dawson butcher and wife Mary all of Beverley Property: messuage and garth on West side of Within the North Barre near the Bull Ring (lands adjoining Woodlane North) Witnesses: Edward Trippe, John Hunter, Robert Richardson, Matthew Skillbecke, Robert Wright. 1649 Son William was baptized on August 5. "Willm. s. to Robt. Wright of Howden 5" August, 1649. [33] [34]

1650 "Will'm son to Rob't Wright of howden" was buried on March 25. [35]

1650 "Bond of £30 between Thomas Athrope of Kilpin and son Robert and Robert Wright" Content: For peaceful possession of land as described in DDX31/291 and three roods in Kilpin Bownill Witnesses: Francis Gunbie, Mathew Haward and K[?] Wright. Dated on December 28. [36]

1651 The will of Robert Wright of Howden, butcher, was dated March 27, 1650[/51?]. [37] Summary: "Bequests: Alice ("my wife") and children Thomas ("my oldest son"), Joshua ("my second son"), John ("my third son"), Alice ("my first daughter"), Samuell, Elizabeth and Jane ("my three youngest children"). Property: messuage in Halegate, land in Flatt Field or Bownhill and 9 acres in the fields of Howden. 2 cottages and half an acre land in Kilpin Witnesses: George Nicholls, Robert Brearsley, Edward Wright and Thomas Wright". Letters of administration and probate were granted to Samuel Wright of Howden on 6 May, 1668. The will was recorded at the Howden court in the York Peculiars Probate Index. [38] [39] [40]:

In the name of God Amen The Seaven and Twentieth day of March Ao. dni. 1650. I Robert Wright of Howden in the County of Yorke Butcher, not haveing att this tyme my perfect health yett being in full and perfect minde and memory (the Lord be thanked) doe hereby make my last will and Testament in maner and forme followeing; (vizt) First l comend my Soule into the hands of Almight God who gave it, assuredly trusting for Salvation by and through the meritts, death and passion of Christ Jesus my alone Saviour and Redeemer, Item I Comitt my body to the earth from whence it came And as for the worldly estate which God hat bestoweth upon me I give and dispose as followeth (vizt) First l give and bequeath unto to Thomas Wright my eldest sonne the summe of One Hundred pounde in money to be paid unto him by my Executors forth of my personall Estate within one moneth after he shall accomplish the age of one and Twenty yeares, Item l give unto Josua Wright my second sonne and his heires for ever after decease of Alice my wife, all that Messuage or Tenement (wherein I now dwell) with all the buildings Orcharde and Appurtenances thereunto belongeing to Howden aforesaid in a street there called Halegate, and one three rood Land lyeing in Flatt feild or Bown-Hill which I lately purchased of Robert Athropp of Cotnes to him and his heires for ever soe soone as he shall accomplish the age of one and Twenty yeares and in the meane tyme my said wife to have the occupation of it, I alsoe give and bequeath unto him tenn pounds in money to be paid unto him as soone as he shall accomplish the aige of one and twenty yeares, Item l give and bequeath unto John Wright my third sonne and his heires for ever, All that my two acres of Land in Flatt feild in Howden aforesaid which l purchased of George Howdale and Francis Howdale and liketwise Tenn pounds in money to be paid unto him by my Executors. Item I give and bequeath to Alice my eldest daughter the some of Forty pounds in money to be paid her by my Executors, Item I give and bequeath unto Samuel Wright, Elizabeth Wright and Jane Wright my three youngest Children and their heirs forever my two cottages in Kilpin neare Howden dike and halfe an acre of Land thereunto adioyneing and belelongeing wth th'appurtenances and all those Nine acres of Land lyeing in the fields of Howden aforesaid as it is-menconed and sett downe in one deeds of bargaine and sale made from Richard Dolman of Kilpin Gentleman to me and my heirs for ever beareing date the Eighteenth day of March in the two and Twentieth yeare of the raigne of the late King Charles Anno dni 1646, And whereas the said Richard Dolman as it since appeareth, had formerly estated the same upon Richard Dolman his sonne and heire and therefore hath by his Obligation beareing date the second day of Jun Anno dni 1648, bound him his Executors and Administrators wth suerties to procure the said Richard Dolman his sonne and heire or other his heires when he or they shall accomplish the age of one and Twenty yeares to convey, assure and release all his or there right, title, interest and clame unto the afore mentioned Lands and everye part thereof unto my heires or assignes for ever; Now if in Case the said Richard Dolman or his heires should fale in performance of the said bond and make forfeytuyre of the same so as my said three youngest Children cannot have good assureance of the premises with the appurtenances made unto them according to the tenure of the said deede and Condition of the said bond; Then my will is That the said Bond and penalty thereof shall wholly redound and acrew unto the benefitt and advantage of my said three Children, Samuel, Elizabeth and Jane, to be equally divided amongst them in leiw of their Childs parts and porcons and steade of the said two Cottages and nine acres of Land, And my Executors to have noe part or benefitt thereof; And as for all the rest and remainder of my goods and Chattells not hereby given and disposed, l give and bequeath unto Alice my wife and Josua Wright my said second sonne whome I make Executrix and Executor of this my last will and Testament; They payeing all my debts and funerall Expences; ln Witness hereof I have hereto sett my seale and subscribed my hand the day and yeare First above written, Robert Wright, Sealed and subscribed in the presence of George Nicholls, Robert Brearsley, Edward Jur Wright, Thomas Wright.

1651 "Robt Wright of howden" was buried on July 27. [41]

1667 Alice Wright of Howden died on May 14. [42]

1668 At the bottom of the 1651 will of Robert Wright is an inscription in Latin, which is very difficult to read: "Sexto Maij 1668, Coram [before] Discrito virg Edwardo Doughting vlice Subto magistrate fuit [was] hmnoi testmentum testmen dci Edwardi Wright prius inecit Commission fuit Eli? dci def [the said deceased] (sui indci... Joshua Wright excris, Samueli Wright, filio euis euisdem def ... Itm testm pr? ... nullu[m] Jur: ?" [43]

The Minster Church of St Peter and St Paul, Howden was built around 1200. It was not kept up after the Reformation and the choir vaults fell in 1696. Parts of the church are now in ruin. [44]
