Notes for Renfrey Arundel and Joan Coleshull

Catholic Genealogies states that Renfrey Arundell was the 3rd son of John Arundell of Lanberne, Knt., and Anora (or Eleanor), daughter of Sir William Lambron, Knt., and that he married Joan, daughter of Sir John Colshull, and sister and heir of Sir John Colshull, Knt. The marriage settlement was dated 9 September 1421. Renfrey was appointed an executor of his father's will in 1433. He was Sheriff of Cornwall in 1437. Joan married 2nd John Nanfan who was living on 18 July 1457. She married 3rdly (before the death of her brother in 1483) Sir William Houghton, Knt., who died s.p. 28 February 1508. Joan died 20 December 1497. The children of Renfrey and Joan were, [1]

Sir Renfry Arundell, Knt., Sheriff of Cornwall 1462-3. Will (undated) proved in 1468. P.C.C. (Godyn 25.) Inq. p.m. 8 Edward IV., No. 38. Died 6 June 8 Edw. IV., 1468. Buried in Lady Chapel, Friars Minors, London. (Stow's MSS. Harl. MSS 544, fo. 59) Another Inq. p.m. 13 Edw. IV., No. 66, states that he died 4 July 9 Edw. IV. (1469).

John Arundell, 2nd son. Rector of St. Columb Major. Consecrated Bishop of Litchfield and Coventry 6 Nov. 1496. Bishop of Exeter 29 June 1502. Died in London 15 March 1503-4. Buried in church of "St. Clement's without Temple Bar, London," under a marble tomb inlaid with brass. Will dated 14 March 1503-4, proved 26 July following. P.C.C. (Holgrave, 14). In East Coker Church, in south transept window, there is a shield charged with arms of Arundell and Carminow quarterly. Portrait at Wardour.

Elizabeth Arundel. 1st h. William Wittngton of Pauntley, co. Gloucester, Esq. (Harl. MS. 1543, f. 74), Lord of the Manor of Upton Haselow, co. Warwick. Will dated 20 Aug. 1470. Died 3 Nov. 1470. Bur. in Grey Friars, London. (Cotton MS.)
2nd h. Nicholas Brome of Baddesley Clinton, co. Warwick, son of John Brome of Baddesley Clinton by Beatrix, da. of Sir Ralph Shirley of Staunton, co. Leicester. He mar. 2ndly Catherine Lampeck, and 3rdly Letitia, da. of Nicholas Catesby. Died 10 Oct. 1516. Inq. p.m. dated 31 May 9 Henry VIII. (1517).
