Notes for Johannes Abraham Bailey and Anna Maria

We have gathered these notes as part of our research for the parents of Jacob Bailey, married to Eva Kleinfelter. We have no evidence that the other children shown here were actually siblings of Jacob and Abraham.

1728 Johannes Bailey [Bolla Bölla] immigrated to Philadelphia on August 23, on the ship Mortonhouse, under the command of John Coultes with 69 women, 56 children, and 80 men. [1] [2] [3] [4] That immigrant might be the John Bailey who lived in Albany Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

1742 Johann Abraham Belÿ, child of Johannes Ab Belÿ and Anna Maria Belÿ, was baptized on April 28, 1763 at age 21 with sponsor Jacob Bely (perhaps Abraham's brother), as recorded in the Personal Register of the Rev. Daniel Schumacher, at Rosenthal, Allemangel, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [5]

1752 John Baily was taxed in Albany Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [6] [7]

1754 John Baily was taxed in Albany Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [8]

1755 Jacob Bely, single son of Johann and Anna Maria Bely, was baptized on October 29, at age 21, by Daniel Schumacher, sponsored by Anthony and Elisabeth Pettersheimer at Allemangel, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [9] [10] [11]

1758 Sons Jacob and Francis Beley were taxed in Albany Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [12] [13] [14]

1760 Sons Peter and Franz Belly were taxed in Albany Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [15] [16]

1763 Jacob Bely was a sponsor at the baptism on April 28, of Johann Abraham, son of Johannes and Anna Maria Bely, at Rosenthal, Allemangel. Abraham was age 21. [17]

1765 No tax listings were found for Bely in Albany Twp. [18]

1770 Son Francis Beley was taxed in Albany Twp, Berks County, Pennsylvania. [19]

1797 The estate of Jacob Bailey was administered in Lancaster County. [20]

1798 Francis, Frederick, Martin, and Abraham Bailey were listed in Albany Twp, Berks County for the U.S. direct Pennsylvania tax. [21]

Geneanet researchers report the following:

1702 Johannes Abraham Baehli, spouse of Anna Maria Pfeiffer, died in Albany, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was born in 1702 in Flörsbach, Main-Kinzig-Kreis, Hessen (Hesse), Allemagne (Germany), son of Abraham Bailey (Bely). Son Johan Abraham Bailey was born in 1742 and died in 1803 in Lehigh, Northampton, Pennsylvania, USA. [22]

1763 Johannes Abraham Böhli|Beöhli|Beli died in 1763 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was born in 1702 in Switzerland, Suisse (Switzerland). His children were Jacobus Beöhli, Annastass Beli, Carl Ludwig Beli, Daniel Beli, Frantz Beli, Johann Nickel Beli, Johannes Abraham Beli, and Peter Beli. [23]

An unreliable source reports: "Johannes Abraham Baehli resided in Albany Twp in 1754. It is uncertain what religion he belonged to before he immigrated to America, because most of his children underwent adult Lutheran baptisms in Berks County. He probably was of Swiss descent, because that name is prevalent there. Johannes and Anna Maria disappear from the records of Berks county after the baptism of their son Abraham in 1763."
