Notes for Frans Heinrich Gans and Anna Margaretha Ruhl

1747 Frans Heinrich immigrated on the ship Two Brothers, which arrived in Philadelphia on October 13, 1747. He left Germany with his wife Anna Elisabeth and possibly a brother. The family may have died en route. Frans married Anna Ruhl about 1752. Frans was a farmer in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania on 242 acres which he was granted called the "Fancy". Anna Margaret Ruhl was the spouse of Franz Gantz, based on the baptismal record of their first son, George William Gantz, which listed his mother as Anna Margaret nee Ruhl in an annotation. [1] [2]

1759 Johannes Ganston, child of Frantz Ganston, was baptized on February 3, 1760, in St Jacobs (Stone), Brodbecks, York County, Pennsylvania. Johannes Ganston was born on December 22, 1759, in Pennsylvania. [3] Perhaps this refers to Frans Gantz.

1765 Georg Wilhelm, child of Frantz Gantz and Anna Margareta Ruhl, was baptized on July 30, 1765 with sponsors Georg Wilhelm Ruhl and Anna Margareta Schwarz in St Jacobs (Stone), Brodbecks Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. Georg Wilhelm was born on July 2, 1765, in Pennsylvania. [4]

1767 Margareth Ruhl, child of Johannes Ruhl and Helena Ruhl, was baptized on June 9, 1767 with sponsors Frantz Gans and wife Anna Margaretha in St Jacobs (Stone), Brodbecks, York County, Pennsylvania. Margareth Ruhl was born on May 20, 1767, in Pennsylvania. [5] [6] [7]

1771 Juliana Gansin (single, perhaps daughter Juliana) was a witness at the baptism of Juliana Ruhl, daughter of Johannes and Helena Ruhl. [8]

1774 Johannes Ganss (perhaps a son) and Elisabetha Gischin (both single) were sponsors at the baptism of Joh. Peter Ruhl, son of Clemens and Margaretha Ruhl. [9]

1776 Juliana Gansin (single, perhaps daughter Juliana) was a witness at the baptism of Juliana Maenge, daughter of Heinrich and Catharina Maenge. [10]

1776 Juliana Gansin (single, perhaps daughter Juliana) was a witness at the baptism of Matheus Reibold, son of Georg and Catharina Reibold. [11]

1779-84 Francis Gantz was taxed in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [12] [13] [14] [15]

1785 William Rule (Margaret's brother) received a warrant for 150 acres of land in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. The land was adjoining Daniel Shnider, Francis Gantz, John Rhul, Henry Albright, and other land of the said William Rule. Dated July 13. [16] [17] [18] [19] [20] William Rule received a patent for the land on June 10, 1809. [21]

1785-86 Francis Gantz was taxed in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [22] [23] George was taxed as a single man. [24] [25]

1786-89 Perhaps Francis gave sons John and George control of the farm in Codorus Twp, or perhaps Francis died. Francis is not named in subsequent tax records.

1788 Friedrich Bortner, son of Ludwig and Elisabeth Bortner, was born on December 8, in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. He was baptized with sponsor Frantz Ganss (perhaps a grandfather) at Saint Jacobs Stone Lutheran and Reformed Church, Brodbecks, York, Pennsylvania on January 18, 1789. [26]

1789 July Gantz, child of Georg Gantz and Margaretha Gantz, was baptized on December 7 with sponsor Julia Gantzin (perhaps a daughter), in St Jacobs (Stone), Brodbecks, York County, Pennsylvania. July Gantz was born on November 7, 1789, in Pennsylvania. [27] Note that daughter Juliana was still single at this time and was married the next year (1790).

1789 John Gantz (230 acres) and George Gantz (160 acres) were taxed in Codorus Twp. [28] [29]

1792 John Gantz (230 acres) and George Gantz (200 acres) were taxed in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. [30] John does not appear in subsequent listings. George, perhaps son of Frans Heinrich, is listed from 1793-1815 with 400+ acres (see his notes). Perhaps George took over both farms.

1797 Salome Bortner, child of Johannes Bortner (and Juliana Gantz), was baptized with sponsor (grandmother?) Margretha Ruhl in Saddlers Lutheran (St John), Hopewell Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. Salome Bortner was born on December 24, 1797, in Pennsylvania. [31]

1768-89 Francis Gantz received a warrant for 200 acres in Codorus Twp. [32] Another warrant for 15 acres was granted on June 11, 1789. [33] A survey was made and was returned on June 14, 1809. [34] [35] [36] [37] [38] [39] A patent was granted to George Gantz (H1-119) on June 14, 1809. [40]

1790 George Gantz received a warrant for 30 acres in Codorus Twp dated April 6. [41] A survey was made the same day. [42] A patent was granted to George Gantz (H1-119) on June 14, 1809. [43]

1793 Francis Gantz, yeoman, sold land to George Gantz, blacksmith, both of Codorus Twp on August 27. There were several parcels of land. One was granted to Francis Gantz by warrant dated June 3, 1768. [44]

Anna has also been reported as born in 1732 in Germany.

Many researchers report Anna Margaret Ruhl's spouse as Daniel Neidig and report the spouse of Hans Heinrich Gantz as Lehnora Ruhl, sister of Margaret. Robert has self-reported dna matched cousin descendants through Daniel Neidig. We seek clarification about these relationships.

1809 The death date of Frans Heinrich Gantz has been reported as November 27, 1809 in Codorus. We seek documentation for this date. The last document listed above that names Frans Gantz is a tax list dated 1785.
