1792 Peter Greenawalt was born on March 12, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [1]

1798 Susanna Greenawalt was born on October 5, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. [2] [3]

1815 Peter was named as a son in the will of Abraham Greenawalt of Manor Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, dated October 6, 1808. The children may have been named in birth order. [4] [Photocopy, Extract of Abraham Greenawalt's will.]

... and I order that all my children shall have equal share out of my estate to wit Abraham Greenawald, Jacob Greenawald, Elizabeth the wife of George Albert, Christopher Greenawald, Susanna the wife of Henry Shoff, Christian Greenawald, Michael Greenawald, John Greenawald, Henry Greenawald, and Peter Greenawald each of them an equal share.

1817 Peter Greenawalt and Susanna Layman were married on October 6, [5]. Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Susanna Lauman's family were members of the Mennonite Church and it was believed that Peter converted to the Mennonite religion.

1820 Peter Greenwalt lived in Manor, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with Males: 1 (age 16 thru 25); Females: 1 (age Under 10), and 1 (age 26 thru 44). Henry Layman age 45+ is listed nearby, perhaps Susanna's father. [6]

1825 Peter Brubaker, George Albert, and Peter Greenawalt were named as settlers in Milton Twp, Ashland County, Ohio. [7] This disagrees with the 1830 census record, below.

1830 Peter Greenwalt lived in Manor, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with Males: 1 (age Under 5), 1 (age 5 thru 9), and 1 (age 30 thru 39); Females: 1 (age Under 5), 1 (age 10 thru 14), and 1 (age 30 thru 39). [8]

1837-38. Peter Greenawalt appeared on the tax lists for Milton Twp, Richland County, Ohio.

1840 Peter Greenawalt (age 40-50) lived in Milton Twp, Richland County, Ohio with wife age 30-40, son 0-5 (Daniel), 2 sons 5-10 (Henry and Abraham), son 15-20 (John?), daughter 0-5 (Susan), daughter 5-10 (Nancy?), daughter 10-15 (Ann), and daughter 15-20 (Elizabeth). [9]

1850 Peter Greenewald (age 57, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Milton, Ashland County, Ohio with Susan Greenewald (age 49), Elisabeth Greenewald (age 29), Ann Greenewald (age 19), Abraham Greenewald (age 21), Henry Greenewald (age 18), Daniel Greenewald (age 13), and Susan Greenewald (age 10). Peter's sister Elizabeth's grandson Christian Moyer lived nearby. John Greenawalt (possibly their son) age 23 and Martha age 25 also lived in Milton Twp with son Benjamin age 1. Nancy Greenawalt (possibly their daughter) age 17 lived in Ashland, Ashland Co in the household of Elizabeth Luther. [10]

1857 Peter and Susanna Greenwalt sold land in section 21 of Milton Twp, Ashland/Richland County, Ohio, on April 10. [11]

1860 Peter Greenwalt (age 64, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Harrison, Elkhart County, Indiana with Susanna Greenwalt (age 50), Susanna Greenwalt (age 18), and David Shriner (age 10). [12]

1870 Peter Greenawalt (age 78, born in Prussia) lived in Harrison, Elkhart County, Indiana, at post office Goshen, with Susan Greenawalt (age 73), and Susan Greenawalt (age 25). Son Henry (age 38), a shoemaker, lived next door with wife Lucy (age 40) and 5 children. [13]

1874 Greenewalt is listed as a landowner in section 16 of Milton Twp, Ashland County, Ohio. [14] This could be Peter or one of Peter's brothers, since Peter had already moved to Indiana.

1880 Peter Greenewalt (age 88, born in Pennsylvania), married, self (head) lived in Harrison, Elkhart County, Indiana (father born in Germany and mother born in Pennsylvania) with Susanah Greenewalt (age 82). [15]

1882 An obituary for Peter Greenawalt reported [16]:

On the 28th of September, in Elkhart County, Indiana, of the infirmities of old age, Peter Greenawalt, aged 90 years, 6 months and 17 days. Bro. Greenawalt was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania., on the 12 of March 1792. He was a faithful and steadfast Christian, and during the later years of his life while suffering a great deal from bodily infirmities, his mind seemed to be drawn more and more toward Him who alone is our very present help in time of need. We have reason to hope that his death was the entrace into a more glorious life. Services by John F. Funk and Christian Christophel from 2 Tim. 4:6-8. Buried at Yellow Creek.

1890 An obituary for Susanna Layman Greenawalt reported [17]:

On the 28th of March, 1890, in Harrison Twp, Elkhart County, Indiana, of the infirmities of old age, Susanna Layman, widow of the late Peter Greenawalt, aged 91 years, 5 months and 22 days. She was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania., on the 5th of Oct., 1798, married Peter Greenawalt on the 6th of Oct., 1817. She was buried on the 30th at Yellow Creek meeting-house, where services were held by Noah Metzler and John F. Funk from 1 Pet. 1:24, 25 and Job 16:22. She was quite feeble during the latter years of her life, yet trusting in Jesus. She had a strong desire to depart and be with Christ which is far better, and often expressed her wish to go to rest. At last she was permitted to go and we have the assurance that the aged mother and sister after her long and weary pilgrimage on earth has gone to be with Jesus. Peace to her ashes.

Married Susanna Lauman 7/6/1817 at Trinity Lutheran Church Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. . Susanna was born between 1796 and 1799 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Susanna Lauman's family were members of the Mennonite Church and it was believed that Peter converted to the Mennonite religion. Records indicate that Peter and wife Susanne lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. from 1792-1835. Land records indicate that Peter sold his land in 1831". Children of Peter Greenawalt include Elizabeth Greenawalt Born PA 1821, Abraham Greenawalt born PA 1829, Henry Greenawalt born 1829 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. died 7/16 /1897, Married Lucy Farrell. Henry was buried at the Old Yellow Creek Mennonite Cemetery in Harrison Township Indiana. Ann Greenawalt born 1831 PA, Daniel Greenawalt born 1837 in Ashland County Ohio Married Caroline, and youngest daughter Susanne born in Ashland County Ohio in 1840.
