Notes for Emanuel Wise and Catharine Kline

1836 Emanuel Wise, perhaps the son of Leonard Wise and Barbara Ritner, married Cline, perhaps Catharine Kline, the daughter of Daniel and Catharine Kline, on 31 March 1836 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. [1]

1840 Emanuel Wise (age 20-30) lived in South Middleton, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania in a household with Males: one age 0-5 [Leonard], one age 10-15 and Females: one age 0-5 [Barbara], one age 15-20, and one age 20-30 [wife Catharine]. The adjacent listing was for Leonard Wise (age 50-60). [2]

1846 On 10 February, at the Orphans' Court at Carlisle in Cumberland County, "In the case of the heirs and legal representatives of Leonard Wise, dec'd ... Jacob Wise the eldest son was called and appeared by his attorney John Goodyear who was not authorized to take any of the real estate." Michael Wise, the next oldest, was represented by Henry Erbin and was not authorized to take. Emanuel Wise, the next oldest son, took the sand bank, valued at $223, with surety by John Souder. All parties or their representatives signed, including Jacob Ritner, assignee for Emanuel Wise, and (on 6 August 1853) John L Brenizer for Mary Brenizer, deceased. [3]

1847 Joseph Gunster sold land to Emanuel Wise in South Middleton, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania on March 20 for $600.

1850 Amaniel [Emanuel] Wise, farmer, was taxed for a 2 story log house, stable, and 1 acre in South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County. [4]

1850 Immanuel Weise (age 39, born in Pennsylvania) lived in South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Catharine Weise (age 35), Barbara A Weise (age 13), Leonard Weise (age 11), Ann C Weise (age 9), and Mary E Weise (age 3). [5] [6]

1853 A debt with Emanuel Wise was listed in the estate of Mary Wise Brenizer (Emanuel's sister). (See the marriage notes of sister Mary Wise.)

1858 The home of I. Wise was shown on a map of South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, near Boiling Spring. Jb Wise was across the street, and other neighbors listed in the 1860 census were nearby. [7]

1860 Emanuel (age 49, farmer) and Catharine (age 45) Wise lived in South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania with children Barbara (age 22), Leonard (age 20, carpenter), Ann C (age 19), Mary E (age 13), and Sarah E (age 6). Next door were Jacob and Sophia Wise (age 47) and family. [8] [9]

1862 Emanuel Wise, of Springville [South Middletown Twp, Cumberland County], Pennylvania, was taxed for a buggy and harness, valued at $75. [10] [11]

1865 Emanuel, Catharine, Ann C, Barbara A, and Mary E Wise, of Boiling Springs, were listed as members of the Methodist-Lutheran and Evangelical Church in Carlisle, Mt Holly Springs, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.

1870 Emanuel Wise (age 59) and Catherine Wise (age 53) lived in South Middleton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania with children Mary (age 21) and Lizzie (age 16). Their estate was valued at $200. [12] [13]

1900 Daughter Sarah Elizabeth Wise Sheafer died on October 6 at Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and was buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Churchtown, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Sarah Elizabeth Wise Sheafer was born on April 26, 1855. [14] [15]

c 1860 Emanuel, Catharine, Ann C, and Mary E Wise were members of the Methodist church in Mt Holly Springs. [16]

1911 The grave of Emanuel Wise, in Enola, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, reports death on 15 August and named Mary Darr his wife. Age at death suggests born 1842. [17]
