1741 Magdalena Bixler was born about this time. [1] [2] [3]

A biosketch reports [7]:

Ulrich [Engel] was a champion climber and climbed highest up the Maypole at Maytown [Lancaster County, Pennsylvania] that stood in the square during their Spring festivities. He was rather light in weight and filled his pockets with ashes which he would rub on his hands to have a better grip on the pole. At his early age he frequently attended dances in Maytown, which was a common pastime for the young of that community.

The Maypole tradition in Maytown continues more than 250 years later. [8]

Celebrate Maytown's History!
The maypole is centered in the town square. Penny candy is priced at just a penny. The hoops are gathered for hoop rolling and graces. Clearly, the Maytown Historical Society (MHS) members are preparing for Mayfest, a lively celebration of the town's May 1, 1760, founding. … More activities in the town square will include … the traditional maypole dance … Mayfest celebrations occurred annually for decades after the town's founding.

1765 Ulrick Engel, administrator for Anna Engel, deceased, produced an account of the estate to the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Orphans Court on October 28. Ulrich Engel married Magdalena Bicksler. This marriage is inferred from the fact that Ulrich was named as the spouse of daughter Magdalene in the 1780 will of Christian Bixler. Further, Magdalena was named as a sister in the 1798 will of Christina Bixler Strickler. [12] [13] [14] [15] [16]

1780 Jacob Strickler and Christian Bixler produced the account for Christian Bixler with balance £2,767.6.7, on March 28, at the York County Orphans' Court. This was distributed to John Bixler (oldest son), Christian Bixler, Joseph Bixler, Jacob Bixler, Michael Bixler, Jacob Strickler and wife Anna, Conrad Strickler and Christina, Valentine Shockey and Barbara, Ulrich Elliberger and Veronica, Peter Elleberger and Eve, Jacob Road and Mary, Ulrich Engel and Magdalena, and Catharine Bixler. [23]

Ulrich Engel and Magdalena (Bicksler) Engle have been reported buried ½ mi. below Shock's Mill, Wildcat Falls, E. Donegal Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Guide to the manuscript groups in the Pennsylvania State archives By Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Division of Archives and Manuscripts, Harry E. Whipkey. 1976. Refers to Engle Family Papers (1854-58) 3 volumes.

Ulrich Engel reportedly emigrated from Switzerland and settled on his father's homestead at what is now known as Wildcat Station on the Pennsylvania Railroad, in the township of East Donegal, Lancaster County. He had five daughters and three sons, among whom was Jacob, an infant when with his parents he crossed the ocean. [58] The "he" in the second sentence must refer to father Ulrich Engle.

1752 Ulrich (Yockeli) Engel, child of Ulrich and Anna Engel, was reported to be the only child who survived the voyage of the ship Phoenix, from Switzerland. The same report then continues with "Ulrich Engel and wife, with eight children, located in a reeking marsh at a point about two miles west of Marietta, Lancaster county, Pa., now known as 'Wild Cat'." [59] If Yockeli was the only surviving child, then how the family have eight children when they first settled at Wild Cat?
