Research Notes:

It is not clear whether all of these documents relate to the same family of Christian Coffman and Anna Wenger.

1780 Christian Coffman was born on August 2, son of Isaac & Esther Coffman. [1] [2]

1788 Anna Wenger, daughter of Joseph G. & Barbara (Hoover) Wenger, was born on June 12 near Edom, Virginia. [3] [4]

1807 Anna Wenger and Christian Coffman were married. [5] [6]

Their children were Abraham Coffman, Christine Coffman, Elizabeth Coffman, Joseph Coffman, Daniel Coffman, Anna Coffman, Samuel Coffman, David Coffman, Susan Coffman, and Fannie Coffman. [7] [8]

1810 Christian Coffman lived in Rockingham County, Virginia in a household with males: 3 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), 1 (16 thru 25), and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 2 (under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (26 thru 44). [9]

1820 Christian Coffman lived in Rockingham County, Virginia in a household with males: 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 2 (under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44). [10]

1830 Christian Coffman lived in Rockingham County, Virginia in a household with males: 1 (40 thru 49); and females: 2 (15 thru 19) and 1 (40 thru 49). [11]

1840 Christian Coffman lived in Rockingham County, Virginia in a household with free white males: 1 (under 5), 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (20 thru 29), and 1 (50 thru 59); and free white females: 1 (10 thru 14), 1 (20 thru 29), and 1 (50 thru 59); and 1 slaves. [12]

1850 Ann Coffman (age 62, born in Virginia) lived in District 18, Greenbrier County, Virginia, in a household with Christian Coffman (age 29), Christina Coffman (age 39), Ann Wilson (age 30), David Wilson (age 24), Susan Coffman (age 21), Frances Coffman (age 17), and Joseph F Fry (age 16). [13]

1852 Christian Coffman died on July 22 and was buried at Coffman Cemetery, Ronceverte, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Christian Coffman was born on August 2, 1780. [14] [15] [16] [17]

1860 Ann Coffman (age 72, born in Virginia) lived in Greenbrier County, Virginia, in a household with David Coffman (age 34), Isabella Coffman (age 28), Moses Coffman (age 5), Martha Coffman (age 4), George Coffman (age 2), and James Coffman (age 7/12). [18]

1861 Ann Coffman, married, died on November 13 at age 73y 10m in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. She was born in Pennsylvania, daughter of Jos. and Barbara Whanger. [19]

1861 Anna Elizabeth Wenger Coffman died on November 13 and was buried at Coffman Cemetery, Ronceverte, Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Anna Elizabeth Wenger Coffman was born on June 12, 1788. [20] [21] [22] [23]

"They resided near Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, West Va. All children were Mennonites. Christian Coffman signed his will in German and willed that his German books be divided equally among his children." [24]
