Died in the Snow
Ex-Ald Thomas Patterson Succumbed to Heart Failure

Yesterday morning ex-Ald Thomas Patterson left his house 215 East avenue north to go to the barn to feed his horse. Before he reached the barn he was stricken with heart failure to which he had been subject for a number of years falling to the ground he passed away unnoticed by Mrs. Patterson who was in the house and thought her husband had gone out instead of into the yard. The body lay in the yard unseen for a considerable time -- until it was frozen. As soon as Mrs Paterson discovered her husband she called a physician but medical skill could do nothing. The deceased was in his 79th year. He was born in Tyrone county Ireland and came to Hamilton in 1886 [actually, 1867]. By trade he was a blacksmith and for years carried on a most successful business here. He was a public-spirited man and served two years in the City council as alderman -- 1887-89. He leaves three sons — John of the Cataract company, Ed B. and Thomas all of Hamilton and one daughter -- Mrs James Devine. Another son -- William K -- was drowned in the Klondike some years ago. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the deceased's late residence.
