1559 Simon Sell wrote his will on August 9. [1]

In the name of god amen The nynethe daie of Auguste in the yeare of our Lord god a thousand fyve hundryth fiftie and nyne I Symond Sell of grete Monden in the countye of Hertf. and dioces of Lyncolln beinge of good mynd and perfecte remembraunce thanks ve to allmightie god make and ordeyne this my present Testament and last will in manner and forme followynge that is to saie First I bequeth my sowle to allmightie god my maker and Redemer my bodie to be buryed in the church yard of Monden aforesaide. Item I gyve and bequethe towards the repayrying of Monden aforesaide xijd. Item I gyve and bethethe to William my Sonne my mesuage and lande to the same appertaynynge called Osboornes To have and to holld to hym and heires males of his bodie laufullie begotten And if it fortune my said sonne Wylliam to deceas without heire male of his bodie lawfullie begotten Then I will my said mesuage and the premisses called Osbornes shall remaine to my sonne John Sell and to theires males of his bodye lawfullie begotten Item I give and bequethe to my said Sonne John Sell my mesuage called Watclerke and all C__ lands which I bought wth the same of Phillip Rygbye to have to hym and to theires males of his bodie lawfullie begotten And yf yt fortuen my said Sonne John Sell to decease without heires males of his body lawfullie begotten Then I will my said mesuage called Watclerks and the said land wch I bought of Phillip Ryby shall remayne to Wylliam Sell my said Sonne and the the heires males of his bodie lawfullie begotten Item I give and beguethe to my said Sonne John Sell my messuage wth thappurtenannces now in thoccupyinge of robert Mansell To have to hym and theires males of hys bodie lawfullie begotten and for lack of such yssue I will the said mesuage wth thappurtenannces foresaid remain to my said sonne Willyam and to theires males of hys bodie lawfullye begotten. Item I gyve and bequethe to my said sonne John my mesuage and lans in Westnull To have to hym and to theyres males of his body lawfullye begotten and for lack of such yssue I wyll yt shall remayne to my sonne Wyllyam and to theyres males of hys bodie lawfullie begotten Item I give and bequethe to my said sonne Wyllyam all that my mesuage lands and tenements in lytle Monden To have to hyme and to theyres males of hys bodye lawfully begotten and for lack of such yssue I will the sayde mesuage and other the premisses in Lytle monden aforesaide shall remaine to my sayde sonne John and the theyres males of his bodie lawfullie begotten Item I gyve and bequethe to Elizabeth my wife all that my mesuage landes and tenements at hyghe crosse now in thoccupyinge of Thomas Grene in dyscharge of the dower of and in all my messuages landes and tents To have to her and her assignes for terme of her naturall lyfe and I will that if my said wyfe do clayme her Dower of or in anny parte of my said mesuages lands or tennements other them the said mesuage and lande at hayh cross then the profytts of the said mesuage and landes at high cross shalbe equallie devided bytwene my said sonnes Wyllyam Sell and John Sell duringe the liefe of my sayed wyfe And after her decease I wyll the said mesuage land and other the premysses at high cros aforesaid shall remayne to my saied Sonne John and to theires males of hys bodie lawfullie begotten and for lack of such yssue I wyll my saide mesuage and other the premisses at Hyghcros aforesaid shall remayne to my saide sonne Wyllyam and to theires males if hos bodie lawfullie begotten And yf my said wyfe shalve contente to take the saide messuage And landes at high cross as aforesaide in satisfaction of her said dower and not claime her dower of nor in my other said lands nor Tenements nor anny part thereof Then I will she shall have everie yere three loodes of wood uppon the grounds partaynynge to the said mesuage of high cros duringe her said lyfe Soo that she kepe or cause the Springs of the saime wood to bee kept suffycientlie and allsoo suffycientlie kepe in reparacyons the said messuage and other the premisses. Item I gyve and bequethe to my saied wyfe xx li of lawfull monny of Englonde to be paide to her her executours or assignes within foure Monethes next after my decese wth all her owne stuf and Inpleamentes of houshoulde which she brought to me and nowe remayne in my possession Allso I give and bequethe to my saied wief vjs viijd of lawfull monnye in recompence of such her bedsteeds as are gyven awaie Item I gyve and bequethe to my sayde wife three kynes three hogs and xxtie shepe to be take at her choice amongs all my kyne hogs and shepe Item I geve and bequethe to my saide wyfe all my pu_eyne(?). Item I gyve and bequethe to my Daughter Elisabeth Sell one harnes girdle and xxli of lawfull Englyshe monney to be paide to her or her assignes by myne executours when she shall accomplyshe her age of xxj yeres or att the daie of her maryage yf she marie before the saide age. And if she decess beofe her saide age and maryage Then I will the ssid xx li shalbe equallie Devided betwene my other three daughters that is to said Hellen Agnes and Johane Item I gyve to my said Daughter Hellen Sell xx li of lawfull monney of Englonde to be paide to her or her assignes by my executors the day of her mariage orells at the age of xxij years yf she marrye not before the same age. Item I geve and bequethe to Agnes my daughter xx li of lawfull monney to be paied to her or her assignes the daie of her maryage or ells at ther age of xxjtie yeres yf she marie not before the same age. And if any of them deceas before the saide ages and mariages Then I will her part so deceasing shalbe equalie devided amongest my other daughters then lyvinge. Item I geve and bequeth to Johan Shotbollt my daughter vj li xiij s iiij d to be paide to her or her assynes within one hallf yeere next after my deceas. Item I gyve and bequethe to Willyam Joyce vjs viijd Item I gyve and bequethe to John Goodwyn vjs viijd Item I gyve and bequethe to Margery Carter four poundes of lawfull monney and one Cow to her or her assignes to be paid and delyvered the daie of her mariadge Item I gyve and bequethe to my said sonne Wylliam Sell fower sillver spones Item I geve and bequethe to John Sell my sonne other fower sylver spones. Item I gyve and bequethe to my said sonne William Sell xx li of lawfull monney Item I geve and bequethe to my said son John Sell xl li of lawful mony to hym to be paide when he comethe to the age of xxij yeres and yf he dye before the same age having yssue of his bodie lawfullie begotten Then I will the same yssue of his bodie shall have the same xl li to them to be paid when they come to the said age yf he dye without yssue of hes bodie then lyvinge Then I will my saide Sonne William Sell shall have the said xl li Item I give and bequeth to John Telbell his three chilldren xxs that ys to everie of them vjs viijd Item I gyve and bequethe to my Syster Mannynge xxs Item I geve and bequethe to Elisabeth my Syster xxvjs viij d Item I gyve and bequethe to everie of my Daughters fyve marks ___ and besides their above named portions to be paide as is aforesaide if the same maie convenyentlie be deducted and spared all ___ fullie discharged and yf it may not be convenyentlie spared than I will this bequest to be voide. The residue of all my goodes my detts and legacy contented and paide I admit to the discrecyon and disposicion of myne executours ordering all thinges at her discression as they shall think most best for their sowles heallthe And I ordeyne and make my brother John Sell and my said son William Sell exec of this my present testament and last will. 1559 The will of Simon Sell was proved on September 4 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. [2]

1563/64 Ellen Sell declared her noncupative will on March 15. [3]

In the name of god amen The xvth daye of Maie Ao domini 1563 Ellen Sell late of Litle Haddam in the Countie of Hertf. and Dioces of London whiles she lived Deceased being in her perminde and memory made her Laste Wille and testament nuncupative in manner and forme followinge firste she commended her soule to allmighty god and her body to be buried in xpen buriall Item she give to be destributed to and amongest the poore people in dedes of charitie the somme of tenne poundes Lawfull monney of England Item she gave willed and bequethed to her sisters viz Johne Sell Agnes Sell and Elizabeth Sell the somme of tenne poundes of Lawfull monny of England equally to be devided betwene them Also she gave and bequethed unto her said sister Johne Agnes and Elizabeth bothe equally to be devided betwene them all her lynnen apparell what soever it were Item she gave and bequethed to Nicholas Dier twenty markes of Lawfull monney of Englande And to her sister Elizabeth Sell she gave willed and bequeathed all her peuter vessell Fynally she willed and required her Uncle John Sell to se these her legacies and bequethes in this her said Laste Will and testament nuncupative willed and bequethed to be well and truly performed being then present and hering the same Grace Kinge Russhes Wief Johne Bennet With other

1563 "Hellin Sell" was "buried the 1 of June" in Little Hadham. [4]

1563/64 The will of Ellen Sell was proved on March 23 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury with administration granted to John Sell natural and legitimate (? et ltimo) brother of the deceased. [5]

1567 John Shottbolte of Baldock, Hertfordshire, malter, wrote his will on April 4, naming sons John and James and daughter Annys, all under age 21, and wife Joan. He appointed his wife Joan and his brother-in-law William Sell executrix and executor and his father Thomas Shottbolte supervisor. The will was proved on June 11, 1567, in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury with administration granted to relict Joan. [6]

1567 "Franncis Pomfrett & Joan Shotbolt vidua" were married on July 28 in Baldock, Hertfordshire. [7]

1596/97 "Joan wife of Franncis Pomfrett was buried" January 10 in Baldock, Hertfordshire. [8]
