Notes for Richard Buzby and Hannah French

1695 Hannah French and Mary French married Richard Buzby and Nicholas Buzby in a double wedding on August 30. "A double wedding was quite unusual among the Friends of that day and the event probably created quite a sensation in the quiet little Quaker settlement on the Delaware.". [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

In 1813 a descendant of Richard and /or his brother William sold 52 acres of land for $6,754 to the Trustees of the Friends Asylum for the Insane, Frankford, Pa. This asylum was the 1st distinctive institution for the humane treatment and restoration of the Insane in this country. the Charter was drawn in 1751. Richard and his brother, William, purchased adjoining tracts of land equaling 600 acres in Oxford Township, Pa. Now located between Frankford and Olney, Pa. The greater part of this estate stayed in the Buzby family for 200 years. Richard was buried in the Friends burial ground din Oxford. Richard and Hannah's wedding was witnessed by Justice John and Elizabeth Adams.
